Does this Tutorial Need an Update? (audio)

I've come across an interresting tutorial for audio:

My question is, is this one out of date? I have followed through it about 2 dozen times and only once did I get the sound dome show up, (and I think I did something wrong when I did that!). Normaly I just get the cube, and I never can hear a thing. I even converted my wave files to mono and still no luck.
