Heya TGE'ers!!!!
Was wondering if there are any TGE'ers in the Silver Spring, MD area. I have been contacted by a company in that area to be there "Sr. Lead C# .Net Developmer", was wondering if anyone (in the area) can give me pointers about the area etc..

Thanks for the info! I visited Silver Springs, MD back in '99 for a possible job, learned about 495 the hard way then ;) also about the cost of living.
I am still in talks with the company, nothing firm yet. Only did the first of what they say would be a 4 - 5 phase interview process. The manager I spoke to liked me and thought I was a good fit.

Congratulations on the new job! I live in Arlington, VA, which is just below Washington DC and semi-close to silver spring. My biggest advice is: Whatever you do, don't get on the beltway in the morning. :)
The beltway (495) is a big loop that goes around DC. So no matter where someone is going in the DC/VA/MD area, they likely have to get on the beltway to go to work. That means EVERYONE gets on it at some point, and it is super congested. I'd say stay off there anytime from 7-10am or 4-7pm. If your work is near a metro stop, you could try getting an apartment near a metro stop, then you could take metro and miss all of that. Places near the metro are a bit more expensive. ALso living inside the beltway is a bit more expensive (since it's closer to DC). My wife and I live near a metro stop and pay a bit more for rent, but we think it's really worth it.
Sorry, I don't know more specific stuff about Silver Springs. Generally, the closer you get to the DC area, the more expensive everything gets, be it shops, gas, or rent.
Do you have a place to live yet or are you still looking? There's a good apartment search guide on Washingtonpost.com.
