World War II Media Pack

by Leadwerks · in General Discussion · 04/26/2004 (8:11 pm) · 64 replies

Hey guys, I am trying to get a feel for who we should be aiming this pack at. Your comments are welcome. What do you think a fair pricing is? Is there a special model or texture format that Torque users need us to include?

Check out more samples at www.leadwerks.com.

Thanks for your feedback.

Coming Soon: The World War II Media Pack contains all the models and textures you need to fill your WWII or other-themed game with art. The package includes approximately 20 weapon models, 8 vehicles, 100+ textures, 10 buildings and plenty more. Here is a high-res shot of an MG42.. As you can see, the models are very detailed. This model is 714 polygons with 1 512x512 texture.

Haha. Thanks, but I dont think you'll get very many other customers at my price. :)

A reasonable price is hard to define. I think the content in there could be worth anywhere from $40 to $400 dollars. But then, if you charge that much, and torque only costs $100, people arent going to be that willing to pay. The models look to be of the highest quality, so I'm sure you can get a reasonable price.

The most useful format would probably .max for the models (or .3ds so other programs can import the models as well). Models that are rigged and ready for export with the torque exporter would be of greater value, since that can be a pain at times.

The best format for textures would be .png or .jpg I believe. The best format for the maps would be .map, since we must use Quark (or Hammer/Worldcraft, but the legality of that is being debated right now and I dont want to get into it) to export our buildings.

Need a good world editor? why not use cartography shop? its very similar to hammer and license free. Just check the leadwerks site :D Torque .map support is coming soon.

I would go with .png as it is a lossless compression as compared to jpeg.

I have been using max quality jpegs as our map editor doesn't support .pngs. Also, any textures with transparency will be in png or tga.

I noticed that the MG-42 doesn't have a round chain-link attached?

I was wondering are there any Commonwealth used firearms (.303 lee-enfield, Owen etc). Any full WWII game would be at a loss without these. Also same goes for the Russian firearms.

And most of all the first assult rifle the MP-44?

I would like to see some French firearms also maybe just there standard rifle(Fusil MAS 36). But thats completely understand to not see due to the course of the war.

But other then that they look nice and I myself would consider it after seeing a full list of the firearms.

Those are nice. Great job. Now where's the "Medieval pack"? :) As for pricing. Anything more than a $100 is probably not going to get you sales. Why not split it up into smaller packs. Heck, bravetree sells 4 trees for $25.

Why not split them up into smaller packs for around $10-25 each? Say one Allied weapons, one Axis, one Vehicle, etc?

Please ask any question on the VisionWorksFX forums.

I am including .map files of the buildings. If you want .dif files, please tell me how to make them.

The textures for some of them could use alittle work (MG42 namely) but they are very good. I like the Rifle Grenade firing cup, a nice addition. You rarely see Rifle Grenades in games.

Kind of off topic but will the "Cartography Shop" ever be for Mac? - It is in terrible need of a map editor :-/ (I mean... there is Quark, GTK, Worldcraft, and now Cartography Shop all for Windows... what about Mac / Linux / Unix!) :(

I checked the Kar98 and MG42 out on the Red Orchestra site. I'm glad to see that there is a lot of interest in these packs. I hope there will be a MG34. ;)

Since Torque only costs $100, you have to choose your price carefully. Splitting the models up into smaller packs like suggested above is probably the way to go. I eagerly await the release of these.

Sorry, no mg34. Atleast not in this release. We will also be doing another pack full of vehicles. that one will be out in about a month.

I have to be honest, if you were able to present something very similar in quantity and quality but in a medieval setting/general fantasy, my project would be very interested. I know that lead times and market is a concern, but I can't see the effort producing something similar to your WW2 Media Pack, but along a fantasy/medieval theme going to waste by any means.
