TGE .PNG transparency bug - any plans to fix?
by Entr0py · in Torque Game Engine · 04/04/2004 (1:32 pm) · 11 replies
Any plans to get TGE to read PNG files correctly (not the alpha layer but the transparency)? My .png files work fine in every other app except TGE. I am currently using photoshop 8 which I cant get the superPNG plugin to work, so what can be done? Hopefully somebody takes care of this problem once and for all....(yes I refer to it as a bug, since TGE is the only proggie that has trouble with PNGs)

Photoshop has had a problem with saving out PNGs since version six. Either find and install the old png.8bi file from Photoshop 5 or choose save for web and tick the transparency settings insteading of just saving the file.

No, I don't believe it's a bug within photoshop, I believe it is a bug with torque. Every other app i use is ok with photoshop pngs except torque. TGE probably just needs to be updated to read newer pngs.

It is a bug in Photoshop since 6 as has been said before. With 7 you had to delete the default png plugin to get SuperPNG to work. Then it would save them out fine.

The superPNG plugin fixes this problem.

Yes, it is a bug in photoshop. Still unfixed as of 7.0 (not sure about in CS) The superPNG plugin fixes this problem.

That sucks. I thought they said they would fix the non-compliancy in the next version of Photoshop :|

Guess they expect most programs to fall into line with THEM.

SuperPNG was a great addition for Paint Shop Pro 7, but sadly it doesn't work for PSP8.x. I really missed it, because even the PSP8.x .PNG isn't completely compliant, especially in reloading a PNG w/an alpha. It just doesn't work. :-P

1. there is another png plugin for ps8 (email me if you want it)
2. use imagemagik to convert (the best choice)
3. convert using paintshoppro or some other program
