Stuttering

My game character "stutters" when she's coming to a stop (this is seen from a third-person view). Is there some required animation that I need to create to blend her smoothly from a walking animation to her idle animation? It seems as though it's popping between the two as her speed decreases, causing a "stuttering" effect.
I've noticed that this is much more prominent the lower I decrease her "maxForwardSpeed," but it needs to be much lower than the default of "13". Is there perhaps some way to control how she eases in/out of the walk animation?
Any ideas?
