European IGC ?

by Tom Bampton · in General Discussion · 03/26/2004 (4:17 am) · 21 replies

Hi,

We were just talking on IRC about the possibility of a european IGC style conference for those of us on this side of the pond who can't make it to IGC.

The reason for this post is to see how much interest there would be in the idea and whether it's worth pursuing. If there's enough interest we'll see about working out details and arranging one.

From the discussion on IRC, Stefan Moises and Myself are willing to help arrange it. I'm sure we'll need help, though.

Tom.

Hey now that is a novel idea. I would be interested in seeing it become a reality. :)

Yes yes yes yes yes! :)
I'm with you! ;)
We already had our German IndieCon anyways last year :P
Question is: would anybody from the official GG gang join this event to make it really attractive for ppl to come? :)

I would love a European IGC :)

The distance to the US is what keeps me from going to the current IGC (and other conferences for that matter).

If you want to fly me out, I'd be interested in coming. ;)

Ben, I'm sure we can arrange some winged suit and a giant catapult to fly you over the big pond. Don't worry about safety, we'll let Joe test it with ponies first :)

Great Idea, but also a big task to handle it.

When I remember the whole work of our German IndieCon ;-) and that was only a little Con between Tork and Diggers with 6 Person.

Where will be the location ?? Ok, Europe isn't that big. Hmm, maybe France, England or Germany ??
In Germany there are many castles with conference rooms, restaurants and bed rooms and they have hotels nearby. And I'm sure there is the same in France or England.
Why a castle ?? because it's fun ;-)

@Ben, nice idea, but remember there are all indie. So it would be better when a big company like Garagegames ;-) sponsored such event :-P.

Hmm.. guys..

Let me do some talking to our guys at the institute.. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I maybe could swing it so that we can run it at the BI (Bolton Institute where I work).

That would basically mean we'd get enough machines and places to talk etc.

Anyway, let me see whats up with that. I think it'd be pretty much ok in terms of location (easy to get to from manchester airport, and anyone in the UK should be able to get to manchester/bolton).

This would be very cool. We would absolutely help out. Depending on when we can figure out when it would be, we might be able to send a couple of people over.

Just make sure to keep it small. It IS a lot of work.

I would attend with my team, for sure.
The only thing that keeps me not attending the US IGC, is the distance.

That would be blast... I'd even be glad to help somehow, no matter how insignificantly, hehe :D

Well, it certainly seems like theres a fair bit of interest. I'll chew on it and try to start the ball rolling.
