Sharing code and scripts...

How many of you guys share everything that you create? How many are holding back? Why?
I believe that we should all release almost everything we make. There is no point in having 12 people each do seperate code for hitboxes (which I made, and they are coming maybe tommorrow night. The reason I havent released is that there is no point in me spending time to release something half-assed. I want to finish the first, so that ou get a perfect, working bit of code that checks collision efficiently for everyone on the server. That should be here tommorrow evening, hopefully.)
I dont believe that you hsould share everything. But we should share almost everything, especialy now when we all need to work on many of the same things. What do you guys think?

Yes, it is part of what they are going to sell, but you will have more to sell if we all share. So share guys! :)

The original author cant sue you for being "inspired" by their code. Plus, how would they see it? :)Yes, it is part of what they are going to sell, but you will have more to sell if we all share. So share guys! :)

You'll see quite a lot of stuff for me in the engine in a later release. The stuff I'm working on is pretty much "core" rather than simple script stuff or like the stuff I was doing on the hud controls. So effectively I cant release it until its finished and incorporated into the engine.
I'll release my own version of the hud controls when Ive organised them to fit in with Pat's release.

good point. Sharing is generally going to be one of the ways we all benefit. But some people are either part way through something useful, or arent capable/willing to do anything worth sharing. You'll see quite a lot of stuff for me in the engine in a later release. I understand and agree Josh - just speculating as to why others might not share... if I have anything useful I myself intend to spread it around...

So, does anyone here NOT share?

Good points guys. I understand the need to wait until something is compete and usefull, etc.So, does anyone here NOT share?

Others may not used shared code for fear that the original author may expect recompense if the game sells.
'Course, I'm just guessing. Me? I don't have anything useful yet. My design doc won't do anyone else much good...
