Double-sided polys in Milkshape?

by Robby Cannon · in Artist Corner · 03/15/2004 (8:07 pm) · 7 replies

Hi guys,
I've tried searching the internet and the forums and I've been unable to find any info on my problem.

Does Milkshape 3D support double sided polygons? If so, can a model with double sided polygons be properly exported to DTS?

Thanks in advance for any help.

I do not think Milkshape 3D can do double sided polys.. I could be wrong but last I checked it couldnt.. Unless its some hidden feature..

You'll have to do it by hand. Duplicate your model, reverse vertex order of only the duplicate, then weld. You may need to scale it down just a hair.

If you are working with transparencies, you'll also need to pay attention to the order the "groups" are in. IIRC, you'll want to have them in the order of how the player would see them (ie, outerframe, glass, floating brain). If done with the brain first, it might show it outside the case, rather than tucked neatly within the glass.

Eric,

You hit what I was intending to do right on the head. After wrestling with it, I finally got transparency to work with my double sided polygons, and now I'm having the exact problem that you describe, where some polys show as if they are before or closer than others when they should not be.

Can you elaborate a little on groups and what you mean by order?

I appreciate your help greatly.

I think I can do one better and show you a 3d-diggers.de tutorial.

Good luck!

Milkshape is a great 3d modeling program but with the vertex reverse it takes a while to understand but has a better interface then some programs i've used.
