Terrain rendering

I was on the IRC channel, picking people's brain on terrain rendering...

MooMoo said something that bugged me a bit. He said he thought he remembered reading that v12 uses a noise function in the terrain rendering when the heightmap is not hi-res enough.

This confused me, so I poked thru old forums posts.

He attributed it to Rick O.

Anyone?

He probably meant the detail texture when the terrain texture hasnt got enough detail.
