Adult Content of v12 games on garagegames.com

by Entr0py · in Torque Game Engine · 09/05/2001 (2:53 pm) · 32 replies

I was wondering if there were a policy on this site concerning games with mature content such as nudity, extreme violence, and bad language. If I were to make a totally tasteless game, would it still get fair treatment as per the license states, as compared to say, a smurf game?

Please answer this, as it is a primary concern as to whether or not we will use this engine.

Thanx.

Wow! Thanks for the quick response!. I'll have to look into the editor issue once i'm up to speed on the engine. At least the content issue is cleared up.

Just purchased the licence today! What a great deal Garage Games is giving us! Looking forward to the long winter nights with it and a dusty C++ book.

I hope my next title will be acceptable by GG standards.

"Beauty Pagent Bloodletting"

Play one of two topless women vying for the North Carolina Beauty Crown casting hairspray into the others' eyes, or a vindictive exboyfriend who tries to catch one or both on film. The more nudity, the more points!

Release date: as soon as I can find two women to pose naked for me.

Ah, the hell with the game... ;-)

LOL! DUDE I'LL BUY THAT GAME! (C: Definite MMO possibilities! Nah, I'm just kidding. The whole "adult content" thing always pissed me off tho...there's such a fine line between "art" and "gratuitous nudity" sometimes. But this beauty pagent thing? That's ART. It shows the inner struggle of beauty pagent queens symbolized by the viscous fighting that takes place between them and their opponents in the game. By showing them nude, it reminds us that they are beautiful on the outside, an important point to ponder when violently attacking other pagent queens, because it hightens the realization of the inner-turmoil that they experience when participating in these deep philosophical gatherings of our countries most prominent thinkers. Also, to see them naked shows their vulnerability and weakness that contrasts with the strength displayed in violent behavior. The game sounds like a roller-coaster ride of emotion, and makes you think as well.....nah, I'm just kidding, but that'd be cool tho right? (C:

Hi,

Point of curiosity:

If I understand this thread right, I could potentially create a fancy 3-D equivalent of Sociolotron (extremely strong and explicit sexual content, current version has very 1990's graphics), say, and publish it myself without any promotional support from GG or presence on the GG site, and I would not be rubbing the licensing folks the wrong way...

Is it also safe to surmise that in such a case, GG should not be mentioned as the underlying engine vendor, on the box packaging or anywhere else.

OR,

By not giving GG credit would I be going against the acceptable norm (as opposed to going against the licensing agreement)?

Final question: Would I still be able to obtain technical support from GG and its forums?

Anindo,

If you don't want to include the Garage Games logo, you will need to get the TGE commercial licence (just a quick upgrade from Indie status). That's the only issue I can think of.

Nearly five years this thread has been in existence, and no one reads their EULAs. :) If you own the Indie license:

Quote:
2.(a) Licensee may publicly sell, distribute, release, publish, transmit and/or exploit any Games created hereunder.

2.(b) Licensee may have the Games published in any channel by any publisher with no royalties. Licensee does not have to offer the Games to GarageGames for publication.

3.(c) Licensee may not: (i) create any derivative works of the Engine, including translations or localizations, other than the Games; (ii) reverse engineer, or otherwise attempt to derive the algorithms for the Engine (iii) redistribute, encumber, sell, rent, lease, sublicense, or otherwise transfer rights to the Engine; or (iv) remove or alter any trademark, logo, copyright or other proprietary notices, legends, symbols or labels in the Engine.
