Must the torque logo be show in the game?

by Luis Karlos · in Torque Game Engine · 02/18/2004 (11:00 am) · 27 replies

I am interesting to know what information about torque must shown in the game, like the logo for example. Must it appear in the main menu, splashscreen ...etc?

Not speaking as a GG employee here.

As far as I know you are not required to have the Torque or GarageGamaes logo anywhere.

Of course, it would certainly be a nice nod to all the hard work behind Torque if you were to include a reference to it somewhere.

On a similar note; I'm definitely planning to show the GarageGames or a Torque logo in my splash screen. Do you guys have a certain image you'd like us to put on there?

You are not required to give GG ro Torque credit. Like Ben said, we appreciate any recognition you can give us.

Here is a good GG logo: www.garagegames.com/main/company/about.php

I'll look into posting a good Torque logo.

Each and every one of us that includes the GG and Torque logo's in our games causes a ripple effect for the entire community. If your game brings someone to the site and causes them to buy someone else's game or the Torque engine, then it benifits all of us. The more eyes that see the name Garage Games the better the chances that we can sell our games when we get them finished. Don't let a powertrip or Ego spoil it for you and everyone else, Use the logo's. They can't hurt you, but they can certainly help you.

I'm 33 years old, I have learned after 27 years of gaming that I'm not wasting a penny on any product i don't think is reputable or well developed. If I come to your site, it doesn't matter how pretty it is if I can tell that you are a buisness newbie. Having GG and their site backing your game would do at least a 500% increase in my interest of forking over the cash. That's just my way of doing things, but I'll bet plenty of others have similar feelings.

Exellent... I will use it in the About dialog, all the credits will be there.

@Jeff/Ben: Did things change recently? In the EULA it says:
(b) Licensee agrees to display a full screen Torque Game Engine logo in the start up sequence of any game created and released with the Engine.

(c) Licensee agrees to include in the "About" box or in the credits screen: (i) a link to www.garagegames.com, and (ii) the wording "This game powered by the Torque Game Engine."

What if my game doesn't have an about box?

@Bill:

You were not around for the last update of the TGE licensing. Here is a link to the Indie news item www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=5352 We liberalized the TGE license, lowering the price of the TGE commercial license to $495 per seat. Here is the lik to the commercial news item www.garagegames.com/index.php?sec=mg&mod=resource&page=view&qid=5354 In the process, we liberalized the indie license in exchange for showing the Torque logo on the start up screen.

You need to show the Torque logo in the start up sequence and in the credits or about box. If you don't have a credits or about, then you don't need to include it.

@Jeff: I was around for the update. Hey, it was in all the papers.

I was just questioning Ben's comment:
Quote:

which was in contradiction to the current Indie license EULA.

Compare the dates of the post and the news article. ;)

The old license doesn't require any splash screen, I think that is what he was referring to, for the "early adopters." hehehe

Hi,
Where can I get the latest logo? My understanding is that the logo posted here by Alex has been replaced with a newer logo(red letters?). I've emailed GG(business dev) and opened a support issue but haven't heard back from them.
Thanks,
Joe

Hi Jeff, I must be missing something, those are all GG logos. I thought the EULA required a Torque logo and that there was a more recent version, the one used in the warzone demo. I already decided to display the GG logo as well, using the one from starter.fps.
Thanks

I'm using the one that was displayed in Warzone.

On which date were the liberalized version of the EULA put in, and are we at free will to accept the new license or retain usage of the old one. What I mean is, for those who bought under the old license, is the replacement of the EULA forced upon those as well, or can they choose which license to comply with? (Except for pricing of course...)
Or are they stuck with the old license?

I believe the license change was from quite a while ago. Back when the commercial license changed from a large amount ($10,000 if over $500,000 in annual revenue, I believe...though I may be repressing the older, less financiall liberal license...it was something like that) to a smaller amount ($495 commercial license if over $250,000). Again, I may have the numbers wrong, but I believe it was through the larger license change which is a huge help to indie developers.

So, if your project has a pechant for programmers who quit and you want the trivial removal of the logo, pick up the commercial license.

Re the splash screen and indie license: Is it ok to provide a switch to bypass the splash screen? It wouldn't be present in the default shortcut but the knowledgeable user could use it to get past the ad so he doesn't get sick of it. I don't mind seeing credits a couple of times but I'd really hate a game that forced me to wait on each and every load for the life of the game.

Is it OK to for example make the GG logo into a cool animation let's say: the logo apears the suddenly somthing happens. a man brakes through the logo... OR somthing like that. just to make it coller, more intresting to see...

Is somthing like that OK.. Would it be posible to make GG logo screen COOLER?

Bardur
