Ok, heres a dumb question, which is better a Mac powerbook laptop, or a PC, 5k is my price range, i just need to know what would be better for a developer, for portability, mobility, and sicne my dad is a truck driver, and i travekl with him, itd need to be rugged. and it would aldo need to look good, run fast, and cool, it would also require good support, and would need to be basically a mobile developer center, anyone have any sugestions or links, to products?

I don't think there's an adapter to VGA, just DVI, so you'll have to have a video card with DVI output installed on your PC.

The cinema display with work on PC, unless Apple changed this for some reason over the past year.

You also need a special adapter(sold by Apple).

No i was stating that the titanium powerbooks are 1st generatoin, while the new ones that you can get in the store is 2nd gen, and DO NOT GET AN ALIENWARE LAPTOP, I HAVE HEARD SUCH BAD STORIES THEY OVERHEAT LIKE CRAZY FROM WHAT I"VE HEARD, get a HP, the reviews are great

That's funny I have a friend who has just a year old model of an Alienware laptop and it works perfectly fine, and no it doesn't overheat for him because alienware does have a cooling system inside of the laptop which makes it weigh a ton.

Based on review sites and a few friends who've used alienware the laptops are the best choice for a great portable gaming platform. Only thing my friend complains about is having to swap the batteries every four hours because man it sucks up some serious power.

And you're talking about having a HP laptop is better than alienware? man I had a horrible time having to deal with their desktop tower systems at work and I would HATE to deal with an HP laptop. I've seen some OK Dell laptops, but they're not really ment for gaming platforms. Apple's Powerbooks seem alright and I don't really know anybody who has them that are used for gaming or related activities. :P

I'd get one of those 64bit athlons with Nforce 3 motherboards. And slap a top of the range video card in. At the end of the day G5's are fast but not actually that fast, a high end PC will more often than not walk all over them in my experience. then you have to decide if you want a radeon of Nvidia card which is the big problem I see right now with desktops at least. ATI rule in DX9 but arent so hot in GL for pro 3D apps on the PC. If your just sticking with the mac you get a much narrower choice but at least it will probably work as everything GL on that front :)

Honestly, I would love to get my hands on an Apple laptop but in my day job, I primarily work with Window$ systems so its not an option for me. Another thing is that most of the modeling tools are window$ only so thats another thing.

What I do use in both my day job and game dev using Torque and Reaction Engine is an IBM T40. IBM's worldwide support have never let me down. I bought my machine in the Philippines and I'ved had a harddisk crash in HongKong and a broked my TFT in China. They were both resolved resonable fast and painless. :)

Actually, I started with an IBM A22M and I was so happy with how reliable that is (gave it to my wife) and bought this one I'm using 2 years ago. I tell you ... I drag this thing everywhere. :)

Still, I want a Mac but will buy an IBM when its time to upgrade. :D
