Hi,
Torque script support is added for the latest version of Brain Editor with the commands database found at this site.
It would be nice with comments/suggestions/etc. so I can improve the support for the Torque Game Engine even more.
Brain Editor is available at www.twinno.com/brainedpro.
If there are any questions, don't hesitate to e-mail at brained@twinno.com

I had a good talk with the other programmers in my team yesterday, Twinno. I'm the only windows user, so they're not interested in buying it right now, but they thought it looked like a really cool editor, so they agreed to split the "devteam" license across all three of us, if only Linux support was added ;)

Bil, I think the reason you'd spend the $$ is because Brain Editor would be maintained. Tribal hasn't been touched in ages! I tried getting the source compiled (even after finding and downloading all the components) and it still was a no go.- Brett

Anyway, in that spirit, if you don't like it, write your own editor. ;)

I think competition is a good thing, and I'm glad to see at least one recent tool that supports Torque, rather than having the community rely on the aging TribalIDE. jEdit is neat but to me Brain has a totally different (and somewhat friendlier) feel.Anyway, in that spirit, if you don't like it, write your own editor. ;)

True, I have an old copy of the Tribal source but as you said it hasn't been touched in ages. Of course the flag that gets set off in my head is the portability issue. Ahhh, so many project ideas so little time. Thanks guys.

Well, jEdit covers the portability side of things. There are tools that are cross platform and script friendly. This just happens to be a good one that's windows only. :)

A couple minor hiccups (user inflicted wounds) and it's up and running.
Easy to use, easy to work with, soon as I figure how to set a breakpoint in script code I'm in heaven..well...you know.....
Now I dont ever have to look at Jedit again!
Well worth the small fee!

Really guys, it's rather faux pas to advertise other editors (free or not) in a thread started by the creator of one announcing his product. :)-Eric

Especially for one that isn't done yet...

Yeah, that is kinda rude. At least start a new thread. :)Especially for one that isn't done yet...

If you succeed, please let me know by sending an e-mail to brained@twinno.com
@Alex, if you can get that many features in a couple of weeks you must be working really hard ;)
>>Alright that's all for me, expect to see more posts dealing with our editor in the future.<<
I hope to see those post in another thread. I saw you did advertise your tool in my screenshot gallery post as well...

Have anyone tried Brain Editor Pro on UNIX with Wine (http://www.winehq.com/). This should make it run with unix compatible systems as well.If you succeed, please let me know by sending an e-mail to brained@twinno.com

I'd be interested in seeing if BEP runs on wine, too. Though of course a native port would be a lot nicer. :)

Yeah, I talked to one of the other programmers, for some reason he didn't like the thought of running it under wine :(. Maybe I'll just get the dev license, and he'll be able to use it if it eventually gets a native linux port :P

@Twinno Software, I was just wondering, why didn't you port Brain Editor to other platforms?
#35
If I understand correctly, it was originally designed for editing 3D GameStudio "brain" files.
07/06/2004 (3:11 pm)
I would imagine that it is because Torque is the only tool the editor supports that isn't Windows only (it can also be used for 3D Rad, 3D GameStudio, Dark Basic and Blitz3D).If I understand correctly, it was originally designed for editing 3D GameStudio "brain" files.

With Brain Editor, you are paying for the Development/Support/Responsibility/Liability of the developer. This may be well worth it for a lot of people.
I will be keeping an eye on development, but until I can try the debugging features, and it reaches the functionality of TIDE-JEdit, I'm simply going to have to stay with TIDE-JEdit.
I simply think a lot of people are mixing up TribalIDE and the TIDE-Jedit as the same project. They are not. TribalIDE is a native Win32 app written for Tribes. TIDE (TorqueIDE) is a plug-in for JEdit, and is FAR superior to TribalIDE. (...well.. IMHO at least).
07/06/2004 (5:50 pm)
I am not trolling, but I don't see how this is superior to the TIDE-Jedit combination. With TIDE-JEdit, not only do I have full cross platform capability, debugging, easy searching, buffer level code completion, programmable macros, MANY 3rd party plug-ins, and Project Management .... but its free! I grabbed the source and made some modifications to the debugger and the syntax highlighting designations in a day, not to mention one of the most powerful programming tools I have used in a long time...abbreviations.With Brain Editor, you are paying for the Development/Support/Responsibility/Liability of the developer. It's about choice and desire. I personally don't run any Java for various reasons, so Brain looks pretty good to me over a Java program anyday.

I don't see why we need more than one compiler on any one platform, yet Borland and Microsoft (and others) continue to duke it out, sell products and make money. It's about choice and desire. I personally don't run any Java for various reasons, so Brain looks pretty good to me over a Java program anyday.

;)
I guess it's true that Torque is one of the few Game Engines to be supported cross-platform, that would make sense not to make Brain Editor cross-platform for engines like 3D Game Studio.
Thanx

Hmmm interesting...I haven't actually heard of TIDE-Jedit, definatelly worth checking out, I used Tribal IDE (didn't like it) and even though Java is a good programming language, the graphical programs that are done with Java have not been my favorite (even Visual Basic programs seem to run better then Java...haha) ;)

Is BEP's success dependent on being cross platform? No.
It's a cool tool, and I encourage you to check it out. If it's not what you're looking for, then you should find something that is. :)
07/06/2004 (9:31 pm)
It's not so much that Twinno decided against making BEP cross platform (in their island fortress no doubt - "Hahah! We will screw over the Mac/Linux crowd by denying them our great editor!"), as that I think they used some Windows specific features in their code. Did it make their product better? Yes. Did it save them a lot of development time? Yes. Does it make it hard to port? Yes.Is BEP's success dependent on being cross platform? No.

The reason why it isn't ported (yet) is because none of the other engines supports unix.
07/06/2004 (11:30 pm)
The old Brain Editor was programmed in Delphi. But because of the speed, stability and engine support I had to rewrite it. It's now made in VC++ that takes care of those issues. The reason why it isn't ported (yet) is because none of the other engines supports unix.
