I am using Win2k with a Gf 4 MX420 and the 53.03 drivers on an Athlon XP +1900 and 512MB DDR266. I'm getting 9-12 FPS outdoors. On the map stronghold from the new sdk package, as soon as I step into a house or the big round room I go up to around 60-70 FPS. Stepping into the narrower tower buildings makes no difference the frame rate stays low.

Another FPS issue my scripter discovered is a radical FPS drop when the pulsatingLight class is rendered. The FPS drop is consistent indoors or out.

Im using a WinXP on a GeForceFX 5200 128 VRAM with Forceware 53.03. There is a noticeable drop in framerate on the following games:
Tribes2
Anarchy Online
Neverwinter Nights with XP1 and XP2
ThinkTanks

The wierd thing is that I it doesn't seem to affect Unreal Tournament 2003 and RWTC: Enemy Territories.

I'm concerned since the two most used games in my desktops are Anarchy Online and Nevewinter ... I hope NVidia fixes this cause my wife is getting pissed off. :)

Good to hear that this issue is effecting games other than TGE games. Should put this issue a bit higher on nVidia's radar. (Assuming that this is the same issue.)

It's not too suprising that the new drivers are working strong on UT2k3. I'll bet that they tested with that game before they shipped the drivers.

There has been rambling on the opengl boards that forceware drivers muck something up in fixed function pipeline engines (ie Cipher suffers from it too btw ;)).
I don't know if UT2k3 uses any of the new features rather than a conventional pipeline, or if it even runs in OpenGL for that matter...

I was testing Tribes 2 and found an issue relating to the drivers. On the map Sanctuary with the 53.03 drivers, any time I look at the base, up to 305m (if I remember correctly) there is lag to the point the game would be unplayable. With one of the old 40 series drivers the map plays beautifully with all settings on max. Further testing might narrow down the object type affected by this issue.

I have a quadro 3000 on my cad machine and I noticed some nasty degrading in cad and in TGE. I also heard they benchmarked the new drivers using vice city as a test and on average the frame rate dropped about 10 - 14 frames on average.

So this means they know about the issue and are probably working on it.

Anarchy Online is almost not playable anymore and crashes more than once per hour :P It's chaos over at the forums, so it's not only TGE.

Paul,

We've started using Quadro-FX3000 at work on some of our products. We've been testing the 56.54 driver and have had no problems so far but the majority of the work involves texturing and very little geometry work so there could still be issues here.

@Melv - it's just good to know your child is going to be born into a more TGE friendly world. (Sorry to cross threads like that, but Congrats!)

I just loaded the 56.55's earlier tonight, and I'm very happy. I can tell that they should be better in some respects, but my indoor FPS went from 150 average to 220 average, my outdoor average went from 90 to 140, and when looking at the DTS models that were knocking me down to 14 FPS, now I can easily get 80 FPS.

I have not experienced any problems yet, I will report back if I find anything out of the ordinary.

@Gonzo - with the new 56.55 drivers, does it display the resolution numbers backwards (1024x1280 instead 1280x1024)? This was a problem when I installed the first ForceWare drivers using a GeForceFx 5600 from BFG, and I have been exceedingly leery of trying to install any of the ForceWare drivers since then. I normally run at 1600x1200, and when I installed the drivers, not only did the resolution show up as 1200x1600, it also put the display in a letterbox-like configuration.

If everything seems cool, I'll give it a try, but I'll have my Detonator drivers handy.

You can remedy that resolution problem by using the screen rotation function in the drivers control panel.
I do have to say I've never, ever encountered that bug/quirk in all the version of the Forceware drivers I've tried (that includes non public beta versions)

Axel, nope, everything is still functioning perfectly. Display properties for my screen and in-game function just as they should.

I'm using a GeForceFX 5900

@Gonzo, how did you get the 56.55 drivers? I tried installing 53.03 and it was doing that weird 1200x1600 thing again like it did on the previous version. On nVidia's site, the only thing they have is the 53.03, as far as I could find.

(Addendum: after I posted this, I went to BFG [the company that made my card] and got the 56.56 drivers there.)

@Nicolas, the Screen Rotation function didn't do a damn thing for me. It STILL displayed the resolution backwards.

(2nd Addendum: once I installed the 56.56 drivers, the screen resolution properly displayed as 1600x1200. Damned peculiar, but I'm not arguing.)

My mistake, i was running um debug i think tha'a the cause of low FPS. I build a release version and the FPS stay < 100.
