Detonator Bugs?

After i installed the actaual detonator drivers from october 23th
my Torque Missions has big problems.Screen freezed a few seconds.
Fps : 7-20
I have a geforce3
A few friends from me have the same problem.....
The driver must be very old to have no problems. I used 45.33 detonator drivers = no problems.
Have you get the same problems?

I've got a fx5900 ultra on a nForce2 chipset and in Strategem I normally get between 200-250 fps but after putting the new ForceWare drivers in I was getting around 40fps. Nothing I did could solve this, including a complete removal off all the drivers/registry entries. I put the older detonator drivers back on and it's back to normal.I guess if I ain't broke then don't try and fix it! ;)

Hmm.. I'll have to see how that effects my game too. Wonder what NVidia did to break it? :)Phil.

This is a very big problem. We need a Solution.
Perhaps one reason is the new texture compression System.
Or a few OpenGL features don't work anymore.

There are a lot of bug reports on the latest nVIDIA drivers 52.xx. I'm not aware of anything specifically related to Torque other than various performance anecdotes from several developers. I hear that nVIDIA is working on getting a new driver out soon, so you might want to revert to 45 and sit tight till new ones arrive if you are having serious problems.

I'm forever staying with 44.03 with my GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64MB AGP 8X card. I tried a newer driver a few months ago and I just barly made it back to 44.03 alive. Apparently when it came to the point where the driver does some scanning of the hardware for resolutions it would take 4 to 6 minutes each flicker I saw. So for now on I'm not going to be nVidia's "ginny pig" no longer. I already had to go thru hell with their first generation nForce 2 chipsets. (Apparently nForce 2 Ultra fixed all the issues) :p

I'm going to try to return to a prior version.

Holy cow, folks aren't kidding. On my GeForce 4 Ti 4600 and...wham! My frame rate is measured in frames per MINUTE instead of second.I'm going to try to return to a prior version.

I just wasted all day trying to figure this out. Finally went back to previous version of drivers and everything went back to normal.

The only problem is, that it seems that Torque is one of the few engines affected. Most other engines get much better performance using the newer ForceWare drivers.
My Tribes2, also ended up being 10-20 fps, so I summarily downgraded again.

My DX9 engine acutally managed about a 20% speed increase though (but it did break some of the HLSL, so maybe that was it). I think i'd consider this a version 1 product, and will steer clear for a couple more versions.
Apparently they run Half Life 2 faster though... bah.

It's not just Torque that those forceware drivers have messed up. Infact try running some of the nVidia demo's and watch them die.My DX9 engine acutally managed about a 20% speed increase though (but it did break some of the HLSL, so maybe that was it). Melv, what version of detonators are you using ?
12/02/2003 (7:15 am)
I you have access to the registered developer part of the nvidia dev site, they have beta forceware drivers in there, as well as beta nforce : using both on my nForce 2 mobo with GF FX 5900 Ultra and they seem to perform better than the official forceware...Melv, what version of detonators are you using ?

I do have access to the registered developer site and I see that they've got a v52.18 up for ISV certification so I'll try this later (I was using v52.16).- Melv.

oh, and I have also downloaded the 53.03 from there, but haven't installed it yet :)

They also have a 52.71 in there, that's the one I'm using (for win2k/XP)oh, and I have also downloaded the 53.03 from there, but haven't installed it yet :)

Duh! I just realised that I've been looking at the NVWORKSTATION registered developer logon, I don't have access to the comsumer one as we only use the workstation graphics cards at work.
It's not a problem, 250fps is more than enough for me. :)

Melv, if you already have a personal account with access to the Quadro stuff, I guess a simple email to Dev rel should get you access to the rest.

@Nicolas: Yeah, I'll probably send a mail on Wednesday. So far I've only needed it for workstation card problems. I've got some great nVidia contacts though; it's amazing what support you can get when you get drunk and spend until 4am in a nightclub with a load of nVidia guys (all on nVidias account of course). ;)- Melv.

Oh, and thanks to the guys on IRC for quickly answering my question =)

So does the 53.03 work properly with TGE? I have access to the NVIDIA partners stuff, and just now found this problem with TGE games. Oh, and thanks to the guys on IRC for quickly answering my question =)

I reverted to 43.23 and everything is fine again.
12/05/2003 (1:54 pm)
Okay, answering my own question. I couldn't wait for a response so I pulled the 53.03 drivers, and the first time I ran Orbz it seemed like it was working. Then I tried the torqueDemo and got the poor performance again. Tried Orbz again, back to bad performance. In addition to low FPS, I should say that TGE games don't go fullscreen for me with the 5x.xx drivers properly, they leave my taskbar and some pixels to the right visible.I reverted to 43.23 and everything is fine again.

now I'm using Detonator 43.45 again...
NOTE: you have to uninstall the new drivers completely (remove your video card from the device list if necessary), otherwise you won't get rid of all the new dll's and stuff...
When I installed 43.45 OVER the new driver, my fps were at ~80...
after a complete re-install I'm back at 160fps again...
