Transparent Texture

Hello all

I'm currently trying to get a texture effect similar to the mission box in tribes 2. I created a grid texture in photoshop and applied it to my model in studio max. I've got the desired effect in max, but that was using a few materials, one being the opacity and using a custom alpha texture I created.

When I export the model into a dts format, the grid is opaque. But the transparent areas arent completely transparent, they're still visable, like a tinted window.

Anyways, I've been messing with this effect for a while and I was wondering if anyone has seen this before, and if they know how to get the correct look. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
