The only danger to getting a Dual G5 system - I'll piss off my wife. She's been drooling over the G5's since they were announced ;-) (What have I done... we buy her a Mac, and suddenly she turns into a power hungry geek!)

I've got 2 out of 3 right now - a PowerBook, and the various PC's. I don't have a Linux machine running at the moment (well, not one that runs 3D apps anyway). But the PowerBook is my wife's laptop, so I've got to schedule time on it. The only danger to getting a Dual G5 system - I'll piss off my wife. She's actually handling a big portion of the planning for our bigBetaBOOM! event for Trajectory Zone since I've been so busy with actually finishing the game. Which is amazing since she's also working full time and doin' college still now.
One interesting aspect about having her on board is that it garantees that all of our games have to be supported on PC and Mac at least - otherwise, she'll smack me upside the head if I don't compile a Mac OSX verison ;-)

Yep - but there's nothin' in the partnership that says anything about sharing hardware ;-)She's actually handling a big portion of the planning for our bigBetaBOOM! event for Trajectory Zone since I've been so busy with actually finishing the game. Absolutely love what I am seeing... developer tools included with the OS... gee, how nice ;)
Just getting an eMac to compile/test on is tempting... is there something extra crappy about eMac specifically? Well, other than the apple store wanting to add $150 to go from 128MB to 512MB...
Note that I am interested in compiling/testing and little else... compile times/debug time is always important though...

Edit: bad markup

Apart from that, the emac has a G4 chip nowadays, so it will do the trick as a second workstation for Mac dev work.
Although, you might like it so much that you'll try to make it your main workstation : I tried with my 2002 ibook, and couldn't pull it off !!! 8p

Joshua, buy your RAM elsewhere, not from the Apple Store !!!Apart from that, the emac has a G4 chip nowadays, so it will do the trick as a second workstation for Mac dev work.

We bought a new eMac with the SuperDrive and Panther installed. I'm using XCode to build and test Orbz, GravRally, and hopefully Elements soon enough. I'm enjoying the Mac experience and am seriously digging the DVD burner.

Agreed Justin, I love my little 12" powerbook with its spiffy DVD Burner. Love DVD Studio Pro, too. Now we just need that Maya exporter...

Now, to overcome the loss of my scrolling wheel and right mouse button... :)
BTW: the TorqueDemo runs like total ass :( Also, the lighting phase took about 5x as long as my AMD 2100+ ... is this normal?

Easy! Don't! I have a three button mouse with scroll wheel hooked up to mine and it works fine.

Yeah, I like the little mac mouse that came with it... but, um, feel like a gimp without three buttons/wheel. I think it's odd that they insist on a single button mouse still being their standard. I mean, what if you only have one arm? Not really kidding on this...-J

I must be missing something...

Alright, so digging XCode very much... I have a problem with Build Styles though, they don't seem to override my Target settings... as in, when I build with Development Style, my breakpoints don't work... though, if I set Generate Debug Info in the Target setting, they do... ????I must be missing something...

I hope this fixes some problems... hopefully will start having fun again once this is installed...
EDIT: Um, from the release notes: -buildstyle from xcodebuild is honored. ... see my message above, you have to be kidding right? Would be cool if it worked now... 1.1 release notes are quite long... could be good.
EDIT 2: Woohoo! Looking good!

XCode has been pooping on my soul... It definately has a 1.0 flavor... Just when I was about to start crying, I saw that 1.1 was released. I hope this fixes some problems... hopefully will start having fun again once this is installed...

I think they are in denial.

Hah... I called Apple and asked why they didn't offer a 3 button mouse... The answer was "I don't know." ;)I think they are in denial.

Now if only we had a level editor like QuArK, a good inexpensive modeler like MilkShape, and a nice skinning program like Unwrap3D.
