Questions about buying torque.

by Brooks Brandenburg · in Torque 3D Public · 01/27/2012 (11:05 am) · 3 replies

If I were to purchase Torque, could my friend who is developing a game with me download the same torque without paying another $179 for the software?

What im talking about is the feature that allows you to "Join" another person with their project, could we do that without buying another Torque?

One more thing, kind of off-topic, but im new to torque and I have only seen one video on youtube about the grass. I really cannot get it to show up no matter what I do, ive spent about 3 hours trying put the grass in, and no success.

Thanks.

Each person developing with it must have a license.

I'll point someone in this direction for our community hour to help with grass.

In the Documentation you will find an article on creating ground cover in World Editor > Adding Objects > GroundCover.

Should get you up and running....

here's my crash course in making grass

1. first you need to make a material, so click on the material icon in the toolbar, and click on the new icon

2. in the Diffuse Map section click on Edit to locate and select your image (make sure your image is transparent)

3. expand the Advanced (all Layers) section, in there turn on Transparency, and Alpha Threshold and increase the value a little

4. give your material a name and save it

5. in the Scene Tree, click on the Library tab, then the Level Tab, then lastly double click on the Environment folder

6. double click on Ground Cover, give your Ground Cover a name when the dialog pops up, click on the material icon in the 2nd field and choose the material you created, then click Create New

7. you should now see the grass image you created all over the level

8. then once its created, you can select it in the Scene Tree>Scene, from there you can play with the settings

Some basic setting to change

Radius: decrease for a better cluster around your character
maxElements: increases the amount of the grass
Types: expand the initial list, then expand the [0] category, then click on Layer and select a terrain texture change the ground cover to only exist on that terrain texture

here's the link to our Ground Cover tutorial as well, it goes more in-depth than my crash course
