Any way to remove TT discussion from the "Forum Threads" list?

by Blake LaPierre · in Site Feedback · 09/10/2003 (3:00 pm) · 18 replies

It is great that they are getting discussion in the TT forum, but when I come here to look at "Make Games" stuff, I'm not interested in reading about some TT clan war or some new TT skin.

I know, it's annoying...

I'm glad TT and the others are doing well, but I'm not a TT owner--I'm trying to be a dev. :-)

I agree. I wish there was some way to filter what gets shown. Its the same thing with marble blast and the other forums.

Anyway to be able to pick what forums we see in our forum thread list ?

PS: I dont wish to hijack this thread but blake ive been trying to get in contact with you for awhile :). Can you please email me on iroach@erggroup.com i need to tlak to you about the Illumina project.

I wish TT was my game and everyone was as enthusiastic about it. :)

Saying that, I still agree with the above posts in that I'm personally not interested in reading about players antics on games, no matter how glad I am that the games themselves are doing well. I simply don't understand half the posts content as they are encrypted in some form of language that I don't understand. ;)

Being able to select which top-level forums to monitor would be great addition to the forums.

This has been talked about before. We need Forum Threads filtering of games' forums because they are flooding the list heavily and it's getting out of hand. It's to the point where I don't even want to bother reading the forums anymore.

I'm sure this will be taken care of in due time.

I would also like to have a filter.

I've been posting on GG for about a year and a half now, I considered myself a fairly active member of the community, however with all the forum threads ending up being about think tanks or marble blast or whatever, I just kinda stopped checking them, which is a shame because I found them very educational and often was able to answer other peoples dev questions. We really should keep the consumer forums out of the dev forums area, they just dont have a place there

I agree even though I'm a TT player. :)

Yeah a filter would be very useful.

I think the time I spend on these forums is about 1/10th of what it used to be. And the only thing to blame it on is Think Tanks threads. And I'm not the only one who spends less and less time on these forums. If this is the way GG want's it, then so be it I guess.

Well, let me play devil's advocate...

I have always found the forum thread list on the right to not be terribly useful for keeping up to date on the forums because only the 5 most recent posts are listed. Unless you are on the site 24/7 checking for new threads every 5 minutes, you will miss threads that way. What the list does show you is what topics are active at the moment. If ThinkTanks threads are active and developer ones are not, is that really something to worry that much about?

With that said, it'll be fixed eventually and it should be. I just don't understand why people are so obsessed with the issue. Do people really use the forum list on the right to keep up with the forums? How is it really keeping people from posting and responding to posts that they are interested in?

Click the Mark All As Read every time you read your posts. That way, each time you come and click on the Unread Posts link, you will have a very manageable number of posts to read. All of the TT and MB posts are in a set area, so they are easy to skip.

We will eventually have subscribable forums, but not for a while. Our forum system is very integrated into our entire site, so changing it is not easy. I think it is a better use of Rick's time to work on Torque and support issues.

I so would have called this thread:

Any way to remove TT "discussion" from the Forum Threads list?

:)

The unread post link is great, can't see what there is to complain about.

Gareth,

I don't think it's a complaint, certainly not from me, just a preference. I use the unread-posts like my email inbox and would really like to be able to select what categories I want. Using the GG site forum system like this is certainly a testament to how good the site content has been so far and I guess it'd be nice to filter the content so it stays that way.

Jeff it correct, in that nothing stops me from simply skipping these categories but I guess it's just pre-empting the potential volume of gamer posts that will probably start dominating these forums.

It's far from important in the scheme of things but if people don't ask then they mostly don't get. :)

We recognize this will become even more of a problem as the gamer traffic increases. It is starting to outnumber the developer traffic, so we are thinking about how to fix it before it becomes a huge problem.

Having a lot of gamer traffic will be a good thing for all of the developers in the long run though:)

Why not have two seperate forums?
gamers and devs...
