Broken UI - TGB on Mac

by Magnus Nevstad · in iTorque 2D · 04/04/2011 (6:22 am) · 13 replies

Hello all,

First post after having just bought a license for iTorque 2D, and have started messing about with the Torque Game Builder (1.7.5).

My problem is that the UI seems broken, and for now the most debilitating issue is that I can't click to expand/collapse the different sections under Edit/Project/Create. For instance I click the collapsed Animated Sprites section but it will not open, nor can I click on an expanded section to make it close.

I am on OS X 10.6.6 currently.

Anyone seen anything like this before?

@Magnus - Forgive me, but I'm a little confused by your post. Which one is having UI problems? iTorque 2D?

Thanks for your reply Michael.

Yes, iTorque 2D - or more specifically the Torque Game Editor.

It is quite possible this can be written up to user error, but on the right hand side inside Torque Game Builder you have a panel with three tabs - "Edit", "Project", "Create". Inside these tabs you have sections that are expandable and collapsible - for example, under the Create tab, you have several sections starting with "Static Sprites".

I can't seem to be able to expand or collapse these sections, however, and therein lies my problem.

For instance after creating an animated sprite I cannot use it or access it as the "Animated Sprites" section remains closed no matter what I try.

@Magnus - Ok, thanks for clearing that up. This is definitely a problem. Let me ask a few problems to try and troubleshoot this:

1. When you boot up the editor and are given the option to open or create a project, what does the version number say?

2. Do you have both TGB and iTorque 2D installed on the same machine?

3. When you open the project, are you opening it from the editor or double clicking the project file?

4. Have you tried recompiling the editor yet?

1. It says 1.4.1

2. Yes. I installed the regular TGB trial first, and the problems were the same there before I tried iTorque 2D as well.

3. I've tried opening from file, from the program, creating new, and opening existing demos.

4. Nope!

@Magnus - Hmm, ok. Try recompiling the editor to see if that helps. It is located in iTorque2D_1_4_1/engine/compilers/Xcode. Let me know if that resolves the issue.

I just recompiled, and alas it didn't fix it :(

I'm sad to see other bugs too, animations do not animate - not in the preview window when creating one, nor when running the game. For example I have followed the RainyDay tutorial exactly, but the animated sprite shows up as would a static sprite.

Here is a quick video of a few bugs mentioned: http://cl.ly/1W1B2l1T0D1i3p3b0P0U

Here is another one: http://cl.ly/2n2j1j3L2M3U0F0m2s2p

Happens to several UI elements seeminly randomly, suddenly a text field can't be edited or a button can't be clicked.

It is worth mentioning that I experienced simmilar issues with the regular TGB (the free trial) before purchasing a license and trying iTorque 2D, so quite possibly this belongs in another part of the forum?

@Magnus - Ok, so I watched the videos. You are the only person who is experiencing this problem, which leads me to believe you have a bad installation. You might need to clear the installations and the app data:

1. Delete all versions of TGB and iTorque 2D from your machine
2. Delete the GarageGames directory from your /Library/Application Support folder
3. Download iTorque 2D 1.4.1
4. Install iT2D
5. Try running again

Michael,

I took a little trip into your IRC channel and a fellow that goes by the handle 'orb' suggested I clear that cache (step 2 in your plan) and reboot, as he had experienced the same (twice) before.

This solved the issue!

This is why I don't use Macs =P
