Setting up levels of detail on 3D meshes

I'm trying to setup three levels of detail for a 3D mesh using collada files. Using the shape editor I loaded the highest level of detail mesh and then added two additional detail levels as new levels. After importing them the highest detail mesh does not show up. It is still present but nothing shows up. The other two levels display fine except that they appear to be out of order since the lowest level of detail seems to be first.
I tried reordering the three detail levels by changing the number called size which seems to work to get all three details to display but when I insert the shape into the world the lowest level detail is visible when you are close. But most of the time when I change the size the engine crashes.
Any suggestions on how to get this properly imported would be greatly appreciated.
