Interesting Idea

I know ground cover object can project shapes across a specific texture upon the terrain.
But I had an interesting idea when it came to damaging the terrain.
Ok is there a way to dynamically change the terrain texture in a radial area when the terrain is hit with say a grenade explosion?
I have been trying to figure if there was a way to make the explosion temporarily change the terrain from say grass to dirt. so that should an area be hit with an explosion of enough damage (rocket, grenade) it will change the texture so that grass, etc should no longer be visible.
Thanks for any ideas.

maybe spawn an occluder of some sort where the projectile hits the terrain, to hide the grass in the area?
and a decal will do the scorched earth effect.
there used to be an occluder in TGEA just like what you need, I dont know if it made it into T3D though.....
