delete if you must but I cant post this in the appropriate thread due to character count "gimme a break"
Is there a point in asking about future updates for our products? Are we once again sent up the river creator without a paddle? The ship is sinking so I don't care about the consequences anymore. Tired of walking on eggshells around this place.
I don't see too many people jumping out of their way to buy Torque. Lets face it, we all seen this coming. Has everyone forgotten about TGEA? TMMOKIT?
Lets start with some obvious things. Top reasons why we knew this was coming..
1. Wrong Direction - GarageGames has made every bad move in the book. Look at the TMMOKIT. By far the best MMO option out there and has been for years. While thousands of thousands of people are buying Realmcrafter, the single worst MMO engine to date from the single worst company, Torque just overlooks the kit and continues to work on features and products that only a small portion of the community cares about. Torque got their butts handed to them by Solstar! That is weak. I spent years defending Torque against Realmcrafter fanbois while torque's misdirected decisions made it harder and harder.
2. Mis-Advertisement - We have all been victims of this from Torque. Web deployment was the biggest version of this but seems like the website was full of it. Torque had their butts handed to them by Unity on that front. Instead of releasing that tech you kept it for yourself for Instant Action then made excuses that that is another department. How did that work for ya?
3. TorqueScript - Garage Games has always failed to realize that 90% of game engine buyers are noobs. RealmCrafter proved that. Torque has no noob option for scripting. They instead take a non noob friendly scripting language and make it even more anti-noob. You cut your potential released games and community down by 3/4's.
4. Sales - Garage Games also fails to realize hardly none of its community are commercial developers with thousands of dollars at their disposal. There are still guys out there trying to explain the TGEA purchase to their wifes. You think they will be able to triple that investment for T3D? Not before the new mini van my friend. We have all been beat to death with your high prices and constant sales pitches. When do we get something that works and is complete in return?
5. Worse Decisions - Let's face a real fact. TGE was the best engine to come out of here and still is in my book. Why in the heck would you discontinue it!!!! Why not add a simple scripting system, a few add-ons, and some documentation and sell it for $40 as a newbie engine? You would sells thousands upon thousands of copies. Don't believe me? Look at all the crap engines out there that did the same thing that are selling.
6. Loss of Company community and feeling of accomplishment - Anyone remember that good ole' days of TGE anymore? I am talking waay back when it felt like we were on top of the world. We had the best engine on the market creating fantastic games. When it felt like the company cared about what you did with their engine. They would even support you. Like I said I am talking waaaay back.
7. Documentation - Do I even need to go there. There is none! Once again 90% of the developer community are noobs.
Please feel free to add, maybe we can get the top 10 reasons for David Letterman.
Look I do not mean to sounds harsh towards GG. I have been a member for quite some time, but under a few different alias's ;) I am still a fan but no where near what I use to be. I wish all those GG workers that tried and worked with the community the best. However for those of you that felt like you were the best of the best with the "I work for GG so I am better than you " attitudes...well I got a new job for you....
