Can everyone who has my email adress in their contact list, or anywhere else on his pc scan their system for this worm: securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sobig.f@mm.html
Getting 80 emails (I think.... I stopped counting after 65) emails a day is REALLY annoying. Obviously someone who has my email adress in their contact list was infected.

@Ron: thanks for checking ;)

@Sabrecyd : Already scanned... my system is not infected. I'm just being bombed with emails from someone who is infected. By now I received over 150 (and we're only like a couple of hours later). The reason I can't filter them out is becuase i'm using a webmail app to read my mail (I'm not at home at the moment you see)... @Ron: thanks for checking ;)

The virus is actually Outlook, remove that ( and Internet Exploder ) and you never have to worry about email viruses again. I have never had an email virus with Eudora or Mozilla ;)

Unfortunatly some of us are not able to use Eudora or Mozilla due to our work ties with Exchange. I would love to use either, but seeing that work uses exchange (no pop/imap) I am forced to use MS Outlook.
Their is also a strict software policy in affect , which does not allow me to install such 3rd party software.
In short, I am screwed ;)

Oh, and I just received another 50... damn the guy that got himself infected (who the f**k opens a .pif, .scr,...???)
08/20/2003 (10:43 am)
Jarrod... not if someone else who is using outlook is infected and its sending you emails every minute. Stopping them on the base of the email adress doesn't work.... its always another one... and stopping them on the base of the title is hard too.Oh, and I just received another 50... damn the guy that got himself infected (who the f**k opens a .pif, .scr,...???)

Serve me right for writing FAQs for games.
If someone can't figure out how to complete Barbie Vacation Adventure, I highly doubt they're going to know how to update their DATs.

I hope not too many frustrated destructive lousy programmers get the idea of mass mailing virusses in their head. Most of them say "If people are stupid enough not to protect themselves against our simple virusses, well then its their own fault" What they don't think about is all the other people they're screwing...

People that actually have time to create a virus really need to get laid.

What a pain.
I wish I had an email address that NO ONE knew about. Life would be easy then.

I am getting a ton of those emails too. I have the old fashioned virus tool. The delete key. What a pain.

Are we all in agreement that hackers are different from programmers? Seriously, if you have a life and you program, fine. That's your job. You like doing it and it's great. If you want to slow down millions of computers all over the world because you don't like someone else's business dealings, do you not need your butt kicked?

"Billy Gates, stop making money and fix your software." (rolls eyes in disgust) I saw in a news report that this was encoded into the worm. Are we all in agreement that hackers are different from programmers? I think the butt kicking is in order. There's nothing wrong with programming for a job or hobby or just playing games. That doesn't screw over people for no reason. It is hard to feel bad for Microsoft tho.

And even a Win2k user has the auto-update feature that when installed is also ON!
So the patch should have been installed a month ago and it shouldn't have infected a single computer.
A Hacker is a programmer.
And the new worm going around that fixes blaster wont effect his emails.
Because Blaster is NOT an email worm.
There has been recent outbreak of old email worms again.
Damn people not getting AV software

Ben, But Blaster has hit at most maybe a million computers. With an exploit that has had a patch for a month now. and there is no reason a single Windows XP machine should ever have been touched by it. (Because by default AUTO-UPDATE is ON!)And even a Win2k user has the auto-update feature that when installed is also ON!

The last and only time this comp was hit by a virus was when someone on the-scorpions.com's forums sent it to us, and my mama was ill enough to open it. The dude was bored... I guess. We had Windows ME at the time, so... use your imagination.
