Games` forums slowly take over development ones

Now, dont get me wrong, its wonderful that customers are alive and active in forum sections dedicated to GG published games. However, they post so actively that usually development related threads got sunk (I'm talking about little nifty thingy on the right hand which shows recent forum threads and which I use so much.)
Simple solution to this problem, while not stepping on anyones toes, would be separating those two. Just put similar "recent posts" box under the existing one, but make one show only messages posted in dev forums and the other show only messages posted in games forums.
MOst likely, with the amount of games being released by Garagegames growing, situation will get only "worse" so I think this would be the right time to make some change.
My two cents and all that.

I was just about to post about this. I agree, we should seperate the recent dev threads and the recent game threads.

Sound ok to me. just depends on the GG staff and the amount of time they have to do this. after all, it is there site.

What I _really_ would like is to have configuration options in my profile.
Simply a long list with the forum names - and each has a checkbox for subscribing.
That way I can deselect the mac thread (I dont own a mac) and the games I dont own and/or dont want to see.

Yeah I agree. I'm tired of seeing posts about game threads instead of something related to development. We need a filtering configuration that's settable for whatever we need. :P

Maybe this will finally get some traction, there is probably a 10:1 ratio of player posts to dev posts per day now.

I completely agree.

I think such a change will take a bit time, but in GG interests its would be to "fix" it fast. I think that Think Tanks for example, are gaining momentum and many new customers post here. It can get even more messy later.
But anyways, I'm glad that GG and GG published games are gathering attention:)

Maybe the previous threads on this topic just got lost in Think Tanks threads:)I think such a change will take a bit time, but in GG interests its would be to "fix" it fast. Gamer accounts would automatically be pointed to something like www.garagegames.com/gamers and of course the developer accounts would see just the normal garagegames.com environment/setup we have now. Well for those who doesn't have a GG account would see what we have on the main page anyway. Kind of like an index of choices.
I know Rick has done a great job of maintaining and developing GarageGames.com web site. But I think it's about time to split up the gamers from the developers or the other way around. Not only would it be better for us, but also I believe it would be a hell of a lot better for Rick to maintain two different sites basically. Rick if you want any more input then let me know. :)
Did I make any sense to anybody? :P

It might be a good idea to split up the whole Play Games area and GarageGames.com since this is kind of becoming a confusing mediem. For example when a user registers as a Gamer they see a completely different side than what a registered Developer would see. That way we won't step on each other's feet.Gamer accounts would automatically be pointed to something like www.garagegames.com/gamers and of course the developer accounts would see just the normal garagegames.com environment/setup we have now. It is far more convenient to have just the one site. Besides, game dev and game playing are closely related.
But I do agree that the dev and game forums being together is annoying.
So:
1) I do NOT think that site should be split into 2 different sites
2) I DO think that the dev and game posts should be put into 2 different forums.
Allowing custom configuration of the forums you can view wouldn't be as good as having 2 forums. If I decide that I want to look at the game posts instead of the dev posts, I don't want to have to change ALL the checkmarks for which kinds of posts I'm viewing.

I think it would be best to still just have 1 site. I already have memberships on way too many sites. I don't want another one.It is far more convenient to have just the one site. Besides, game dev and game playing are closely related.

Yea lets bring it back to a filter you can set in your profile..either that or even a second section of recent post's dedicated to dev posts.

You don't understand my idea. Not actually have two different sites, but split them up as different sites. Of course they'll share accounts' database. Gah, nevermind guys I don't think you'll ever understand my point.

I agree, lets filter out the gaming posts from the dev posts. I actually enjoy helping people with their dev questions, but it sometimes becomes too much.

But the forums are something diff, and they need to be split. I never ever read the gaming chat from games I dont own. But it keeps popping up as "unread posts" if you know what I mean

Nathan: personally I dont mind the gaming part being mixed with the devel part on the site. It makes sure that the potential mass of buyers is larger than if you split it into 2 sites. But the forums are something diff, and they need to be split. Just put the dev related posts on this page... and the game related posts on the play page. Everything is still on GG, but the devellopers have their corner and the players have their corner...still its all in the same room, as a matter of speaking.
Is GG doing this on purpose? Do they think players will buy the engine and make games? If so, I can understand that...but there are other ways, without "annoying" the already established community.

What are you guys talking about splitting it up into 2 "sites"?Just put the dev related posts on this page... and the game related posts on the play page. Maybe add a similar pane to the right side of "play games"?
