Snapshot Tool Woes - Does it really work.

I am trying to take a snapshot of a player mesh to use for a multires modifier. I make sure it is set to single and mesh and it creates the object.
The strange thing is that I cannot apply any modifiers to it. None. It is also not part of the scene root (parent is none).
It does not show up in the selection box, the only way to select it is to click on it in the viewport.
I am using Max 5.1. Has anyone experienced this issue or am I just crazy?

I have an editable mesh with a biped attached via the skin modifier.
I select the mesh and go to the edit menu and select snapshot. Using single and mesh I take a snapshot.
There must be something wrong with my model as I tried it on the garagegames player.max and I was able to use the snapshot. Now to figure out what is wrong with my model.
Thanks for the response I will keep trying.

It very well may be an end user problem. Nevertheless is it happening.I have an editable mesh with a biped attached via the skin modifier.

Some quick thoughts off of the top of my head includes...
- Make certain that your "selection filter" is setup corretly (ie. it should be any or geometry).
- Check to see if your object is frozen, this would prevent you from selecting or manipulating the object if it was.
My personal thoughts at this time is that its a end user issue and not a problem with the software. Especially since any node within Max has the option of having a modifier applied to it.
