Trees? And of course, water...

by Max C. · in General Discussion · 06/28/2003 (9:10 pm) · 44 replies

Two things: does anyone have some good in-game trees they'd let me use, and/or does anyone know of any good sites that provide tutorials/models of trees..?

And second: Does anyone have a good water texture?! The water in Torque...it just doesn't do anything for me.. Too blue, and too unlike water.. Thanks for your help,

Max

Take a look at this:

And this:

Each branch is actually shaped like a little potato chip.

Not trick to the texture. Take a good photo and get busy is photoshop making a nice alpha channel for the transparency.

I haven't tried to make a tree lately, does the 3dsmax exporter still have problems with the sorting of large numbers of polys? When I tried to make a tree with to many branches, it would crash every time.

If you use the sort:: stuff, and you have a lot of intersecting polygons, it can turn into a big mess as the sort:: splits the polys. It is better to not have intersecting polys when using sort, or if you do, use as few polys as possible.

I have never had it crash on me when exporting. First step is to always export without the sort parameters and see how bad the sorting problems are before adding them.
