Anime Style Graphics and Limitations

I was wondering if RE would be well suited for an anime style graphic game in 2d/3d? Also, what are the major limitations to RE?

Mark: RE hasnt got anything to do with the "style" of your graphics, thats down to the artist. RE is simply there to draw them.

What kind of limitations are you thinking of?

Actually, it does. Can it do cel shading? That would be a the make or break point for an anime style graphic game. Otherwise it wouldn't look right. Cel shading styles can't be faked in non-linear environments by any artist.

As far as limitations, all engines have limitations (ie level sizes, etc). What are RE's?

Some of RE's limitations

1) no terrain code
2) no cel shading
3) no praticle engine
4) no network code

Some of RE's advantages
1) designed with the novice in mind
2) extremely well documented
3) several examples that get you up to speed with the sdk quickly

the above are just a few of the many limitations/advantages with RE. RE was not made to be a AAA engine (such as TGE is).

Stop by the chat session tonight and speak with Chris Cole (Creator of RE)
