How do you make an underground base?

I made a base (interior) that gose undergornd but you can't beacuse the terrian is bloking the passage. How do you avoid this?

While in the Game:

F11 -> (Main Bar)Window -> Terrain Editor

Then...

(Main Bar)Action -> "Set Empty" will clear ground areas.
(Main Bar)Action -> "Clear Empty" will fill cleared ground areas.
