I'm here to invite 2D and 3D artists to join a closed beta of a new media marketplace service. We need people interested not only in testing, but suggesting and helping improve the service. Please, contact me for more information.

Vincent, your post should read:
"Looking for people to test my website for free. Also looking for people to sell their digital products on my site for a high% fee."

- You *should* be honest about it. TurboSquid is honest about it.

P.S. Sorry.. but I think this stuff deserves 'trolling'.

try to be different. ie buy the model rights outright so artists can get a legitimate price for the piece. commision artist for concepts and use those concepts to commision models so multiple artists can contribute to the same package. studios will actually want to visit your site if they can find packages of models all made to the same quality and visual style.

and by using more artists working to quidelines you can out produce many rival sites.

your open invitation for artists to dump spare models on your server so they can score small percentages from the sales is hardly inviting to anyone. the artists might make 10 bucks if anything at all a month, the customers will get an eclectic bunch of models with no theme or consistency. and the admin goes belly up a few months in due to a lack of interest.

I'm sorry to hear that, eb, but maybe you are a little confused and not understanding my thread.

Also, i never mentioned any fee, so how you guys can guess it is high? Our current plan includes 90% of revenue for authors (that's 10% for us) and a quality test before accepting items. We are not Turbosquid and we don't plan to be.

I can't give any other information because that's what a closed beta is: closed. As i said ealier, interested people should contact us. Once the service is released publicly, i believe we can discuss it.

..a reply is always good!

My intention was not to offend but to get you to explain some of your plan/idea/concept. It may have been in odd-form, but it is a tactic I sometimes use just to get replies and not be ignored. ;)
- Some posts in this forum are initially as bland as yours was, yet they never return to explain anything about themselves...yet they still expect people to fall in line as if their post is a gift from their form of monetary-heaven.

- IMO, if you're trying to bait people to sell their work for your gain(which is what this is)...then you should be outright and open from the very beginning. Wear your dignity and pride on your sleeve next to your badge of transparent honesty and integrity. Don't expect talented people to come unless you do just that.
- I have seen *many *many people attempt stores like this over the years and they fail due to certain reasons. I have partially explained 1 of the major 3 issues that cause ventures like this to fail. I wish you luck on finding, acknowledging & avoiding all of those issues as best you can. ..just remember, you're working for them, they're not working for you.(if you think the opposite way, you're site *will* fail.)

P.S. I like Scott's idea of putting people to work. - I am sure Scott has seen this type of venture fail over and over again. (..he eludes to that. )
@Scott: ..it is a shame that we had to pry this out of him.

I'm looking for people that know the area and are interested in contributing for a service that they might be interested in the future. I'm not trying to get slaves, but people that can help create a more user-friendly and user-targeted service. Beta testing, in short terms.

I'm not advertising my service and i don't plan to. I'm not here to get sellers or users to my website, but people interested in testing the service and telling me: This is good, this sucks, this should be like this, etc. Because as you said, i'm working for them, therefore i need to know what my employers like and dislike.

I apologize if you have felt like you've had to defend yourself here. My words are not meant that way. My words are more of a generic "look out" or this could bite you in the behind.

me and a few programmers tried to setup a site that sold leadwerks models.

leadwerks uses a 1cm/unit scale, dds textures with specific textures in various layers, plus materials vertex colours etc.

so i got sick of helping people convert bought models to work in that engine, i teamed up with some programmers and tried to make a site top sell directly to the community models that already worked.

the programmers got ahead of themselves, kicked the site off before i could finish a large package of models, they invited other artists to contribute, the site had about ten of the same models with different textures.

the consistency wasn't there, people saw no value in buying a barrel model or a traffic barrier. something they could make themselves no matter how bad they were at modelling.

so before i could actually even finish enough of the models i was making to be considered a "pack" the site was closed due to lack of interest.

lesson learned, the site and the artists need to work together, indie studio's need consistency, eclectic bundles of random models, even if they're all barrels, will not be consistent. you can't start sites like that slowly. you need to start with an extensive compilation.

to use an analogy, would you keep shopping at a grocery store which slowly buids up it's stock. it's first week it only sells tomato sauce, the next week it has apples as well. six months in it only has 1/3rd of your grocery list. you'd very unlikely bother returning to the store.
