Segmented Characters ??

by Johnny Hill · in Torque Game Engine · 05/09/2003 (9:16 am) · 2 replies

From what I seen so far, Segmented animated characters produced the best looking characters in game.

I looked at the links and the companies doing Cyberfuge have some great looking models. and the other guys Parasytic Moon have the most unique but equally impressive models.

I know these companies are using Lightwave and Studio Max to produce these great models and equally talented modelers to go with it.

I got Milkshape 3D so I hoping to get my 2D drawings to translate well to 3D like the above examples. :)

I found a great tutorial using a scan drawing to build your models in with milkshape.

I have a question about using segemented characters.

Is it possible to develop a paper-doll system. For the character models in Torque.

Either some type of layering process or switching texture skins in-game.

I would like to be able to change armor without having to switch the character out. I will study this a bit more but I havent found anything specfic on it.

By next week I will have the torque SDK sitting on my harddrive heh. :) then I get post on the other forums.

Guess I didnt look quite hard enough heh, I found some of my answers by searching for armor.

I would like a in-game system for switching up body armor.

One way is just customizing between levels but I rather try and duplicate the feel of switching out gear in the middle of action.
