Graveyard of dead projects

by DME · in General Discussion · 05/08/2003 (3:19 pm) · 256 replies

I was wondering what happens to people once they do a bunch of work for a project and then it dies.. Do the people just take their work and go to another project?

Reason I ask is because I'm currently working on level design using worldcraft. It has come to my attention that there has to be billions of levels already out there that no one ever uses.

If I take a completed level add my own textures and change it to suit my game is that copy write infrigment. Cause I started with a level then edited it?
If it is does anyone have levels kickin around that they are not using?

The site is a great idea, but doesn't seem to have much participation. What can we do to get a bigger flux of users in there?

Lemme list the following "dead" projects of mine: Realm of Darkness, Ionica(not my fault, HD faliure. Especially since it was so close to a launch date.), Xellion, Obsidian Flame, Fallen Gunner, Project Epsilon, DeathCon(not mine, but was working on it), Project Nemesis, 9/11(not mine, but none the less, a politically incorrect massive faliure.), Hell's Awakening(not mine, but someone elses), and Forgotten Lands. :) See a pattern here? I've mainly just thought of ideas and tried them out. As you can see, most of them have failed. Thus is why design docs and early prototypes or stresstests are essential.

Now I'm working on a game called Squareo Bros and we're very close to a demo. :)

Uh, loosing a near-complete project due to HD failure *IS* your fault.

something you should make an effort to correct me thinks.

Meh. It was more a learning experience than anything. I was the only one working on it. Not to mention it was a RPG Maker game which makes it very hard to backup or restore.

Hey all, the site is now more functional... the submitting of resources is working again (there is still an error but don't worry, it's working!) I added also the ability to rate resources and there are now announcements... my next step will be fixing the submitting bug and then adding announcements and resources comments.

So please help the site to grow... submit resources and check the forum. Thanks !

I might upload stuff later. Project Raven has a lot of extra character models. Probably got 100+ and we are only using around 54

Are the Download buttons on the site broken? I tried a couple, and just ended up with a page refresh...

I think it needs be required that submissions have an image, or a description of what the file actually is, if not both.

Description: A Digital photo

Really doesn't help, and i'm not going to download it just to find out what it is.
