OK , first post here so just need some advice.
Currently looking at full purchase of Torque3D and some other gear but wondering on CPU grunt needed to do all I want.
I currently have a laptop - 2.53Ghz Core 2 Duo , 4GB ram and 500GB hdd , but when running Houdini for example , it is very slow at rendering when compared with the likes of Maya or 3D Studio. I am guessing it is the renderer itself that is the issue - don't mind paying for software if it actually runs well so maybe it is only the demo version of Houdini that is the problem.
Back to the main point though , I can get hold of a dual CPU , dual core Xeon system with good QuadroFX video card and 4GB ram for a good price.
Would this system be better for what I want to do or is the laptop still about on par?
Hope this is fairly clear - just after an idea the Xeon system would work out faster for graphics manipulation than the laptop , and any thoughts on if Houdini is a good program to run - the $99 Indie price is good news as Maya and 3D Studio are too pricey for just home developers.
Thanks for any help you can offer.
