M.A.C.K. and 3ds Max

by David McDonald · in Artist Corner · 10/26/2009 (10:58 pm) · 11 replies

Has anyone successfully brought the M.A.C.K model (in particluar the skeleton) into 3ds Max?
I wish to use our own models with the animations and eventually the ported scripts etc however I haven't been able to get the skeleton into Max.
I would rather not add another 3D modelling tool such as Milkshape to my growing list of tools if I can help it.

if i can't get it into xsi then i know you can't get it into 3ds max. i looked all over trying to find a exporter or importer for there formats i just can't find nothing.

I'll look into providing another Source file format; probably FBX or Collada. May contain a few extra Parent nodes, we'll see...

Thanks Rex. Would be handy to be able to at least pull the skeleton into 3ds max.

David, I've got a 'working' copy constructed. I did it this morning over coffee before I headed out for the day job. It does have a caveat, which I'm certain 3DSmax can overcome. In getting a FBX export of the rig only[had some issues with rigid meshes and my export to FBX], the rig seems to export as desired, with the exception of some prepending to the name string an element of "Model::" to the nodeName. If you like, I can work this a bit more tomorrow and perhaps get an evaluation copy off to you at a suitable address...let me know.

We run on Windows Live Messenger...ahem, the Contact details are in my Profile. Makes for very quick responses file transfering, etc.

Thanks Rex. Added you on IM.
I think we can remove the prepended naming without too much trouble.

So will you be adding this to the M.A.C.K & F.A.C.K's?
Lack of 3DSmax support has been my biggest reason (after my bank account) for not buying these :-)
