Please do not suggest Visual C++ (the registration site doesn't work) or Code::Blocks (followed the tutorial for making it work and it didn't work...)

Strange ... I just installed Visual C++ Express on a spare machine and I was able to register it successfully ... so I am not sure what problems you are experiencing.

I was going to comment about VC++ as well. Any reasons bar the registration issues that you don't want to use it?I really have no experience with other compilers ;P

I would register it, if the site would work! It just shows the loading thing and never finishes loading...

That could be a sign of maintenance in progress. Or a browser problem. Does it send you back and forth between Live logins?

I'd say Visual C++ will be your easiest option by far so I'd try and get that working - might be something in your browser blocking it

Firefox works. It was the browser.

I find that certain aspects of Microsoft sites don't work so well under other browsers ... this is primarily due to special ActiveX controls that they normally use in their sites ... I know Windows Update and the Registration sites of certain products use these ActiveX controls.
Glad you got it sorted now.

Google Chrome for general browsing and Firefox when neither works properly.I find that certain aspects of Microsoft sites don't work so well under other browsers ... this is primarily due to special ActiveX controls that they normally use in their sites ... MS don't use ActiveX for anything but Windows Update, by the way. Even there they have an alternative option which works in all other browsers. Silverlight is another problem where that's used, though ;)

IE on Windows and Safari on Mac gets me logged into the MS sites. I find it strange that Chrome (which uses not only the rendering engine, but also the security framework from WebKit) has trouble with any MS sites.MS don't use ActiveX for anything but Windows Update, by the way. To map out some C++ programs Notepad++ is good
