by Ghostly Studios · in Jobs · 10/25/2009 (2:24 am) · 5 replies

Ghostly Studios is an independent game development studio based out of Myrtle Beach, SC. After finishing projects with our partner companies we are starting work on an exciting new sci-fi virtual world.

We are seeking a 3d Pro who is capable of handling the modeling, rigging, and animation for multiple items. We are working using the Unity 3D engine, and any experience in Unity will be helpful. For this position you must be capable of using your own discretion in bringing concepts to realization while at the same time is versatile enough to cover many art styles. We are looking for independent thinkers who are easy going and able to work with the other team members in a positive way. We have a great flow and amazing teamwork, and we are looking for someone who adds something to that formula.

We have one (Possibly two) positions open for this, and are accepting of all types of personalities. We hold weekly teleconferences which are usually at around lunchtime EST on Saturdays. You will be required to make most of these, but time tables are negotiable for telecon times. We are NOT a fly by night operation and have a strong developing relationship with other indie studios in which we draw important resources from when necessary. It is IMPORTANT TO NOTE that our team is working off of a structured profit share payment schedule, and we are looking for PARTNERS to help us build and grow our company. We are completely sympathetic to the freelance 3d artists who are looking to sell their services, but we are all putting in sweat equity towards a product which we believe will be a true winner. "Big Picture" long term thinkers are a plus for this team.

For those that are interested, motivated, and energized for something fun and exciting and are really looking for a sure win to get your foot in the door of the industry then give me an email at bcollins@ghostlystudios.com with some samples of your work and a resume - I Promise you that what we are doing will not be disappointing.

So you're looking for a 3d pro... someone who can design, model, rig, animate, texture, code shaders, and do lighting.

Are you willing to pay pro rates?

and by 'pro', I assume you mean that the caliber of work experience would be feature quality.

Perhaps its just because im very sick right now but I cant help but recognize the somewhat sarcastic response to our otherwise very legitimate posting.

First off: That isnt what I said. The definition of Pro in this sense is someone who is professional, hence the word pro. Thus someone who can do the basics of what they need without much outside guidance or influence - and thus someone who is capable of working in a professional atmosphere. I thought my request above was relatively well put together and most that have since responded havent seemed to have any trouble in understanding what would be expected of them, and If they have they have asked me in kind and I have been more than happy to explain things by both phone and email.

Second off: This kind of response marks a truly sad turn in the industry to me. A Sardonic response to an honest request from a group of truly dedicated and passionate people. Try to think before you judge. The terms of employment are listed above and we are trying to be as clear and concise as possible up front.

When your crafting a product or building a business, "Sweat equity" is an often important and necessary part of getting off of the ground. We are working off of this type of payment scheme and each of our contributing members are all passionate and dedicated to building a company in which we will all have own own degrees of ownership within, and the terms of this ownership are clearly stated in both writing and explained when we bring them on. We understand that there are people who are just looking for "A job" here and they see dollar signs as a primary medium, and thats fine for you - We all need to feed our families. Personally, this will be my third company if I include the company I am working with now which is a federal information security contractor. The two previous of which have been very successful and I have no intention of leading Ghostly any other way. This is the way this kind of stuff is sometimes done.

There used to be a day in gaming were people were passionate dreamers and cared to take charge of their life and their future in order to work to build something truly unique. Game companies the likes of which were started by todays gaming greats all started in an age where dreamers with an idea and the will or motivation, and occasional leadership capabilities, went out and reached those. We have a product, a studio, a plan, and a team which we believe in just as strongly.

If your true intent is to respond in a chastising or sarcastic manner to our post simply because of the fact that we are an unfunded upstart, then by all means save those types of antic dotes for another. If you have something constructive to add then were always willing to hear it. If your not interested then please, by all means, leave the space for those who ARE... or either have something constructive to add.

Hi... I have experience with 3ds max and milkshape. I have worked on several commercial projects with avatar construction and animation. I am definently interested if the position is still available.
