Approximate release 1.1 schedule?

by Zealander · in Torque 3D Public · 10/13/2009 (6:21 am) · 13 replies

Hi all.

I heard about a lot of improvements in version 1.1.
Performance, advinced lighting(using pureLIGHT), core changes for forest kit and so on.

It sounds very promising and Pacific Demo looks cool.

It could be great to know approximate schedule of release 1.1, including beta versions.

I need it for planing our project plans.

Thanks.

We are not quite ready to commit to a release schedule (even approximate) for Torque 3D 1.1.

There is still quite a bit of development underway that is difficult to estimate an accurate timeframe for.

Will this update be free for T3D owners?

Or - even more interesting - will all T3D 1.x updates be included?

Thanks.

Actually pureLIGHT works in Advanced and Basic lighting 1.0, so no worries there.

Still the question if all all T3D 1.x updates will be for free for 1.0 owners...?

@Tobias

I personally expect that to be true... it was pretty much true for the lifetime of TGE and TGEA.

That said GG still needs to eat. If you ship an engine and do free updates for 6 years like was done with TSE/TGEA its really hard to stay in business.

At some point there will be an optional paid update... i'm sure heavily discounted for existing owners and with a ton of new features. And like with TGEA i'm sure they'll still be doing all bug fix release for free.

Thanks for this clear statement!

I thought 1.1 was the last free update and 1.2 would be a paid upgrade? (as part of an annual major upgrade policy - 1 paid + 1 free)

Can't find the post where that comes from right now ... don't think it was a sobriety induced hallucination ...

I think you might be thinking of one of the blogs during the Betas when the pricing structure was getting discussed. There were a lot suggestions thrown out there by all sides then and I do recall that as being one of them. As far as I know there's been nothing definitive decided on that front.

Torque 3D 1.1 is a free update for current Torque 3D owners.

Currently Torque 3D 1.2 is also planned to be a free update.

The version after that will likely be a paid update.

Edit: Errr...Torque 3D not Torque 2D =P
