Fall 09 Art Challenge : the Undead Horde
by Logan Foster · in Artist Corner · 10/08/2009 (6:36 pm) · 9 replies
Its been a while since we did an art challenge here in the art community for GarageGames and now with everyone back in school and getting settled for the winter its time to start up another Art Challenge.
This challenge is themed alongside the fall season here in North America, and of course right in time for 'All Hallow's Eve', that theme of course is "the Undead Horde".
Your goal as with the previous art challenge is to create and show off your best 2D or 3D work based on this theme and post it here on this forum thread. This work can be 2D such as concept art, sketces or bitmaps or 3D work ranging from models, high poly sculpts or in-game art.
As always any work that you post must be yours or you must be the copyright holder on the image(s) posted (aka don't repost someone elses work, the goal here is to create something.
Here are some samples to get you inspired:
World of Warcraft Zombie
"Night on the Bald Mountain" from Disney's Fantasia
Headless Horseman by Frank Frazetta
Zombie
Skeletons from 'Jason and the Argonauts' (by classic stop motion animator Ray Harryhausen)
As always best of luck guys, looking forward to seeing the results :)
Edit: Fixed image tags.

Large Version
Inspiration for this was based on the classic Boris Karloff image and a movie prop I found reference to online. I have a few areas I want to fix up on it (the hair being the biggest one) and of course throw on a quick bitmap.

I had a few free moments this weekend so I pulled out Mudbox and did a quick little test of a classic undead movie villian... Frankenstein!

Edit: You should take some time to quickly modify the orc texture to match your painting you did there. After that drop him in game, play the dance animation and record it to the "Thriller" song lol.
