Using TGB inside of TGE as a GUI?

by Edward · in Torque Game Builder · 10/05/2009 (5:17 pm) · 21 replies

Hi, i am looking at getting TGB to attempt to put it inside TGE/TGEA/T3d, to use for minigames and such. However i was wondering if anyone else had made the attempt to do that, with or without success. I have had one response of someone calling the Exe outside of the game and such, but this just seems a bit over the top, when i am certain the best way in the long term is to create a gui window that allows such a game to be loaded and played to be connected to the current TGE program that might be running.

I have 3 big minigame ideas but i want to run them inside of TGE. Thoughts Ideas? Would anyone like to help me with this, I have three original variations on current games, that will make wonderful minigames.

Merging TGB back into TGE should be fairly trivial as TGB is just a fork on that codebase. I know of guys who've sucessfully done that and can probably give some helpful advice (time for you to shout out, bank :)

As for TGEA or Torque 3D, I'd rather wait for Torque 2D to be released (if the timeframe allows). The porting effort to these engines will probably be rather non-trivial and with Torque 2D one would not only have all the integration work readily done but also get a great update over TGB.

//Edit: why are there so many keys on this darn keyboard... constantly hitting the wrong ones

nod, thanks Rene, we are currently using the TGE version right now, but I am keeping my head open for the future versions. If you know anyone that might be able to help with this.. please throw me a email, or pop me a link. Thanks Rene.

hmm Rene, there is the website link, but other then the company link, no personal link or email on either the profile or otherwise.. I did find this..

there is a few more, but this seems to have something closer to what im looking for with the creation of a guicontrol that allows TGB to be played within another function, pausing the previous game and so forth.

No problem.

Be sure to tap that pool of experience there. bank really has raced TGE round the track plenty of times(*).

(*) That probably flatly gives away the non-native speaker.

Hey Edward.
Please have a look at these threads:
T2D meets TGE
T2D in TGE; works for me
For my project, I'm using heavily modded "TGE152/AFX110" with TGB112 integrated in.

Not sure if latter versions of TGB is easy to integrate into TGE152 as 1.x.x versions.

And I would recommend to get Torque3D + Torque2D (when it comes), as both are running on the same base and works together without hacking.

hmmm do you have a copy of the original 1.1.3 source files , since apparently these are no longer available. and according to these posts, larger minds then myself have had a issue with it.

If you buy TGB Pro it should be available under previous versions in your account.

really it goes back that far.. ok.. i know that with the current setup, we cant get previous versions of TGE prior to 1.5.2 unless we were of course there and bought it.

edit:I cant even download any of the previous from the 1.4.2 page.

Well, I don't know how it would show up for you purchasing it now then. I've been around since '03 so and I bought TGB back before it was TGB.

thats what i mean, the resource that is pointed to above was before they branched out. So before i invest in buying a engine that isnt even available anymore, you knw what i mean. This particular source seems to be something thats obsolete, some time ago, but is still relavant to the current projects in its own right. So what does one do?

If you need a specific previous version, I'm sure contacting GG support will get you there.

i already called them just a few minutes ago and was referred to Davey J., and left a message. So we will see if we can resolve this issue. particularly since there was a price change from the original older version. So i dont know how that will be handled either.

Yup I con confirm this as an owner of TGB commercial. Here's a walkthrough. Click "My Account" -> My Products" on the top right of this here screen. Then under the header "name" you should see Torque Game Builder Pro (Commercial). Click the "download" link next to that. You should see a list of current versions, but at the very bottom will be a little arrow and the text "Previous Versions". Click that and it should expand where you can access download links to every version of TGB 1.1.3 and up. If you can't access the aforementioned "Prevous Versions" menu maybe there is something funny going on with your browser... Hope that helps!

Ha, completely forgot about that feature. I've only got TGB at version 1.7.4 but there's 1.1.3 in the list for me, too.
