I believe that the GG staff as well as most of the folks that have paid for the T3d product have agreed that the Private Forums will remain that due to the amount of piracy already seen in the Betas. Check in the TGEA areas though for some hints at answers. If your using a pirated copy and are looking for answers to engine questions.. sorry, we cant help you. If your interested in a certain aspect of T3d before purchasing, ask, most of us will help you out. other then that, I can say, purchase your t3d license and get access to private forums. Hope that clears up some of the questions regarding the private t3d forums being brought to the public realm.

i recognize the legitimacy of the piracy argument,
but a counter-argument is that having separate private and public forums decreases overall community effectiveness. for example, i'm a T3D licensee, so if i have a question about something, even if it's just a scripting question, i'm more likely to post it in the private forum, just because that's where the more knowledgeable people hang out. so that discussion, even tho appropriate for the public forum, won't be publicly visible.

obviously it's GG's call and they need to balance community effectiveness vs. piracy-supression, but from a community perspective i think private forums are a detriment.

@Edward, you do realize there is a demo? Not everyone is a pirate, like you see it. I plan to buy T3D but all I have right now is the demo. Would like to see the private forums as i know there is a lot of cool stuff. I asked for help yesterday and got it, so thats not the concern.

@Orion, thanks

Here are 2 related threads with similar concerns and questions. Personally, i think they shouldnt have opened any of the resources or TGEA either, but as you said Orion, its not our call. I am T3d licensee myself, so i see the same forums. And yah i can see some helpful items that would aid TGEA users (like the SFX fixes), on the other hand, TGEA has 99% of the answers for folks, unless your planning on buying t3d, which is why there is dedicated t3d public forums for folks to ask these questions, what is t3d, what is in it, and so forth. But asking for specific items within the private forums, which might contain source codes and such.

yes i do realise there is a demo, so whats your question and what does that have to do with opening the private forums?

the question was in the topic. if i have a question I will just ask in public. i understand your concern on piracy, but the fact that the demo is out is pretty obvious people are going to ask the same question. didn't think much of it just by asking.

There are these public forums, and they're the place to ask questions.

I had started this thread some hours before and just saw this one. The basic idea is the same but I'd only open the T3D forums for people who bought a 3D engine before (TGE/TEGa) and thus should be trustworthy. I know that even people who (legally) own a previous engine could become pirates, but that's very unlikely IMO and shouldn't be compared with the advantage for the all the fair playing people in this community.

I still feel that all engine specific (read source code) forums should be locked down to legitimate license holders only -- and piracy is only a small part of that reasoning.

Most of the questions that I've seen asked (90%+ of them) can be resolved in the public forums. Anyone asking the other 10% of the questions should already have access anyway.

Piracy its not a money problem, its a moral problem.

Almost any software, book, music, etc., created in the world, can be pirated.

The real piracy movement its like the hacker movement or the GNU movement, the problem is that some people don't understand it and think that its free things.

If i like someone or i like support someone because their production deserves my respect,so if you like it - buy it!
