Bones/Joints Outside of Model Mesh

If I need to bring a joint outside of a model's mesh, will it cause Torque to crash, or can bones/joints be placed anywhere?

There are only a few bone threads here. Too Sad!
I do have a problem with Bones in a Static Shape, the Show Tool shows only the Bone which animate my tree. Not the whole Tree.
In the Engine I see my tree but without animation.
There is the Thread, where you can animate Static Shapes:

But he used no bones.
Why nobody use bones in there games? Do you have only Human Enemies , where you can use The Character studio tools? What is with nothumanlike Monsters? What do yu use there?
