ScatterSky simulates sky and sun light color. It's not to be used with skybox because it generates sky color dynamically. It's also not to be used with basic sun because it already generates sun light.

They cannot (and should not) be combined because they are different solutions: basic sun+static skybox versus dynamic scattersky.

To get a sun on the scattersky, keep in mind to drop in a time of day object, as it controls the scattersky daytime

incoming noob question that I guess relates to the topic.

With a scatter sky, is it possible to have clouds (besides the basic cloud function) that can cast shadows? Would it be possible to create semi-transparent white clouds in say Maya or 3Ds Max and position them really high in the sky or would that be a performance killer?

You don't need a skybox if you use the scattersky -- it's a conflict of different implementations. You use one or the other depending on your needs.

@Steve: there is another cloud layer tool other than the basic clouds. It generates a procedural cloud layer but I don't think that it cause them to cast shadows.

Yea its not really clear that ScatterSky is both sky and sun... maybe we should rename it ScatterSkyAndSun?

Also as far as clouds casting shadows on the environment. We hope to add functionality for that in 1.1 or 1.2.
