Enemy at the Gate Released for Review

by Henry Shilling · in Torque X 2D · 08/31/2009 (12:25 am) · 15 replies

The game I have been working on Enemy at the Gate has been posted for review in the XNA Creators Club. If you are an XNA premium member please check it out and give it a review.

I look forward to seeing more of your games up there as well. I learned a lot and got lots of help from the forums, thanks. I plan on writing up at least a few of the things I learned as soon as I catch my breath.

Reviewed and passed. I'd be really interested in any tutorials you could write up from your experience.

One thing that would have helped in the game was a quick "How to play" screen. It was super easy but took me a minute to figure out how to move the vehicles...I'm sure some users will not be able to figure it out...sad as that sounds.

I am planning on writing up how I got the GUI to work. seriously that was the hardest part and took 50% of the development time.

Played and passed.

Played and reviewed.

I also have to agree with Jake; after playing up to level 14 I was still unclear as to how points are calcualted to achieve the best score and it was also unclear as to how to make the vehicles shoot at the enemies rather then move towards them. Although it seemed easier to me to run into the enemies rather then shoot them.

OK I guess my son wins. the circles are the range of the vehicles, when an enemy is within range it gets shot. Like a tower defense, or missle command. : )

I told him we didn't need instructions.

I've learned to always listen to the kids. ;)

Just reviewed it. Passed. :)

A little game play recommendation, I'd shrink the units a touch. It was pretty easy to park the tank and car on opposite sides of the house as shields and then just move the helicopter.

I was confused at the start too. Maybe a arcade style how to play loading screen. Press a to continue type thing.

LOL!! Another argument with the son, however I was for the smaller circles and he was against! Thanks for the input, I do plan to include some of these changes in the update.

Also received my pass, by the way. You should almost be there. Unfortunately, once you pass a game, you can't see the Creator's Club progress bar anymore.

It was at 91%, so my pass should have been the last one needed.

The Next one is already in the works. I think I am really getting the hang of the framework. I know that like so many others I mistook the editor as the main tool. The editor is almost unnecessary, It's just a nice to have tool. I have explained that a few times now in the XNA forums.

Now if we could only do something about the docs : )
