Installation Woes

by David Slagle · in Torque X 2D · 08/29/2009 (8:47 pm) · 7 replies

Hey everybody, I've run into a problem, maybe you can help me.

When I try to install Torque X, it tells me that it requires XNA Game Studio Express. When I try to install XNA Game Studio Express (1.0 Refresh), it tells me that it requires Microsoft Visual C# Express 2005 . . . even though I have the 2008 edition of C# Express installed (the 2005 version is no longer available for download).

How can I get XNA GSE to recognize that I have C# Express installed?

Any help would be appreciated.

What version are you using? You know that there is XNA 3.1 now?

Yes, and ironically, I have XNA Game Studio 3.1 already installed on my computer as well. I think I needed to download it to install Torque X 2D.

But my Torque X Builder download file (1.0.5.1) tells me specifically that it requires XNA Game Studio Express, which I guess is somehow different from XNA Game Studio 3.1. Since that install certainly isn't helping me.

Really, I'm a bit lost. With the PC version I just had to install Torque Game Builder and Torsion, then I was set.

Do I even need to install both Torque X Builder and Torque X 2D?

Time to go back to the download page and download Torque X 3.1 release, the actual binary version is 3.1.1 for the latest. Torque X is based on XNA 3.1 and Visual Studio 2008 Pro/Express.

How can I get to the Torque X 3.1 release? My account download page only has Torque X 2D, and Torque X Builder version 1.0.5.1.

You should be able to click on the Torque X 2D download link, then in the next page, click on the "Torque X 2D 3.1" link.

So I don't need to download the "Torque X Builder" that shows up in my download links? Just Torque X 2D 3.1?

No, when you install the Torque X 2D 3.1 as shown above, that installer will also install the latest release of the Torque X 2D Builder.
