Documentations and primary problems in T3D

by Ali · in General Discussion · 08/29/2009 (8:51 am) · 10 replies

I`ve started to read documentation the installation has provided! a few begging pages was too specified and useless! when it get to some useful parts you just can read "place holder", "WIP" !! when you search the forum all the useful threads are private! what would happened if you`ve provided more concordant docs ?

The most primary thing anyone should able to do is to make a blank project without reading a single line of any document. It's a whole day I couldn'nt find any thing neither in docs or forum to just create a balnk project.

The other primary and main feature of T3D that this site declared was Collada, with which you can import .max files into torque. I wonder when you export .DAE , is there a single button in model editor of torque to select this .DAE? and load it to models? If there is one,i couldn't find it.

And the last thing I wanna mention is the structure of the application. when you press "Play the game" in world editor, its done! and you can't come back to editor, unless you exit the whole application, go to toolbox, then reload the world editor...

If i'm wrong with any of above issues please help me... thanks

Well, WIP means it's not done yet, just as T3D is also not finished yet, but in Beta 5. Yes lot's of info is in the private forums. YOu should be able to access them if you bought T3D, if not, ask someone from GG to set it up for ya.

I could answer every one of your questions, and there is nothing at all complicated about what you've asked; but you see the thing is, is that you're not listed as an owner -- so I have to question your need for such answers, that's why the forums for Torque 3D are private. In fact in one of these private threads is a means for you to leave feedback for the WIP documentation. Truthfully Torque3D is so easy to use that I've yet to even need documentation.

Thanks for replying this thread.

Currently I'm not in such position having access to any bank account GG provided. SO I demanded a friend of mine to share beta version.
You're right about the editors, no document needed. What about the scripting? How would I know the use of torque functions and abilities.

Y'know, I can't remember how many times I've been trying to find some information in the online TGEA docs, and ran into 'WIP' or something like that. From what I've read the folks at GG are accutely aware of this situation and want to ensure that the docs are exceedingly robust for T3D. However, that is much easier said than done, and I must admit that some users (especially those who remember the state of the docs for TGEA) will be very leary about upgrading to T3D if these kinds of complaints regarding T3D documentaion are common... How can you RTFM if th FM is BS?!

BTW, it's nice to have the forums to use a a resource, however if I'm in the middle of production and I need an answer, I may not want to wait 1-3 days or more for the appropriate response to appear in the forums. The docs have to be solid... the forums are not a replacement for thorough documentation.

I don't know how many times I've seen someone who clearly admits to have broken the eula lisence, then demanded better docs. (or some other type of help.
Your friend, by giving you a copy, has broken his/her lisence and could loose it.
With that all said, the docs are a work in progress as is T3D. Neither are complete yet. With the awesome job Michael is doing on them, I'd be willing to bet they are the most complete docs GG has ever had for their engines.

What would happened if I've that (non-existing) beta or trial version and find out this application was not suitable for my use?
@mike: I'm so sorry, I really admire you all for development of such great application. And you could be sure I would payed 1k$ or more for my own "license" of T3D if I got the app right for me.
And why you all are mad at me! I know its the beta... I just mentioned some blind spots.

All I wanted to say is: Just don't be so strict on T3D.
More ppl have the T3D (trial or for less price) >
more resources creation in forum & sites & blogs >
more ppl find app useful and buy the pro version.
btw now I don't have the setup file nor the installed one.

Ali, that's not the way it works. You can't change the rules to suit your needs... it's not fair to the people that payed good money to be in the beta. I'm closing your account.

Wow, I can't believe the nerve of Ali... It's nice to see GG looking out for it's paying customers and stomping a fool like that.
