Ambigous polygon, brushes

by Matt Droll · in Artist Corner · 03/28/2003 (1:39 am) · 8 replies

I get this error in map2dif:

Amigous polygon 1
Orphaned brushes 0

Is there a simple way to find out which brush/poly causes this error?
In Hammer there are no errors list in the problem-window (Alt-T)
I found the problem by deleting the structures step by step and found out that it was a simple triangle. Is there an easier way?

Does it that actually prevent you from exporting or is it just in the list. I use Quark and I map2dif gives me that error all the time but doesn't stop me from exporting.
I know Orphaned brushes are just section in which MAP2DIF culled out other parts of the brush and one face was left for use so it was "Orphaned". But I have never had Amigous register anything so thats why I was wondering.
Quark has tools for finding thin broken faces. But I don't know about HAMMER.

no, I can export it as usually! I was just wondering why that error occurs!
this doesn't affect to the performence, does it?
I got this when I created a simple triangle, one as many else in this map!
so there shouldn't be any problems with the light map or something like that?

I don't think it matters. They seem to just be anonimous errors or events that happen during the export process. As long as it doesn't prevent you from running the model I wouldn't worry about it.

QuArK can find problems like this much easier than Hammer, usually. I don't remember that error, in particular, but you might search the forums.

So I'll just forgett that! At the moment I can't find any problems caused of that. the map2dif runs through the whole progress, writes the outpunt and it works fine in the engine.
I'll try it out in QuArK when I got a bit time once!
thanks for your help guys!

Quark in my opinion is better at building the geometry. More tools and better texture access. Hammer looks real good to work with but it doesn't seem to have the shortcuts to make fancy things. Its worth learning to use it.

well, I once installed Quark, but had a few problems with it, so I staid at Hammer.
Ok, I'll test Quark once more! If I'm having problems I'll call you Matt! ;)

thanks anyway!
