The book doesn't read like a tutorial. It's more aimed at teaching you the fundimentals, which I loved. I already know what the extrude tool is or what the rotate tool will do. The book covers everything from Normal maps and vertex coloring to poly reduction. One of the major concepts in the book is to start broad and then add more detail, and then add even more detail. He tells you to ask questions about what you are making. How old is this object? How is it used? How often is it used? Who uses it?

The book has lots of pictures that show exactly what Omernick is talking about. I would say the book is about is about 60% text and 40% pictures. I wouldn't say that Omernick took a cheap way out and just loaded the book with pictures because you could skim through a paragraph of what he is saying and then glance at the picture and understand what he is trying to get across.

I enjoyed reading the book. It wasn't the least bit dull. I found chapter about creating shadows very useful. I never thought of creating shadows the way he showed me.

He had plenty of useful tips, some I knew, most I didn't.

If your a game artist I would check out this book. It's a good book. :)
