2nd Plan, Video Card Success!

Some of you may know that I was having trouble with my Mobility Radeon 9200 Video card. apparently ATI doesn't make the drivers for my card, and so teh catalyst drivers won't run on it. So i installed teh omega drivers to see if I could watch the fricken TSE demo. Omega worked, but liek a week later I started getting BSOD and I realized my fan wasn't going. So i reinstalled the old drivers and sent it out to get fixed (broken fans are covered in the warrenty). So i sent it out and they checked it out and my mom picked it up when it came back.

I looked at the paper work and it said they didn't do anything. So that was kinda confusing, but my fan was working. My guess is that is was dirty and got clogged so they just cleaned it, but i would think they would at least say that they did that.

Anyway I kinda got scared of the omega drivers. And so i didn't try to fix the whole me not being able to view the TSE demo. But i got curious again and I read more about the omega drivers. It was a little while ago but I think it said it like auto overclocks your computer. So I posted in 3d-palace for alternate ways to fix the problem, and people made said to get a docking station thing that had a video card in it to plug my laptop into but That would be kinda annoying because i already am using a docking station (but mine doesn't have a video card in it).

So then someone said to check out Patje's mod tool, and so I did, and my card wasn't on teh list and so I emailed the guy and he said it would still work, so I tried it out. I ran into a little trouble but Patje helped me a little and now I have the catalyst drivers. I feel so happy! I can watch the TSE demo! I downloaded the half life 2 demo and got freaked out cuase I had my speakers really high up and It's 2 am and I don't have any lights on. And I can view normal maps and shaders in 3dsmax and YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh here is hte link to the tool: www.driverheaven.net/patje/

Woot Woot!!!!

You're video card fan stopped running and it didn't fry? I had an ATI 9800 that's fan stopped running for only a couple minutes and it got completely fried.

I had a nVidia card and the fan siezed up, but the card continued to work, but with crashes all the time :p I eventually found out the problem (fan stopped) and replaced it...still works great to this day and that was about 2 1/2 years ago :P

I had an Rage Mobility card in my old laptop, that thing gave me nothing but problems. ATI didn't make the drivers and Compaq didn't care enough to update theirs. I think it's the same deal with any card with "Mobility" in the name. It's cool you got it working, I never really succeeded with mine.

It ran Quake 3 and Half Life, although most of my games were played at 320x240, hehe.

No it just shut down ever 5 mins.

Yea just because of my litle fan clogging thing I ordered a USB fan for my laptop, so I'll always have a backup, my computer will liek never over heat!!

Yea I've done that before. It still freezes when like certain things come on screen though.

It's a 9200 mobile. For one the IC packaging tends to be more tested for higher heat inside the small case IE Ansys. Just for grins take a peek.. www.ansys.com/products/multiphysics.asp

Anyway that GPU has a lot less transistor count as well. Less heat generation. There is already a new trend afoot to have fanless cooling *asus etc.

Glad you got it working.
