Plan for Micheaux "A.J." Boyce

I have heard from many sources that the best way to start in this industry is to begin as a video game tester. I would greatly appreciate any possible information on who I need to talk to and the "requirements" for me to get a job as a tester. If anyone knows where I need to go ,who I should talk to, or things that would help me, especially for someone that has no experience at all in this field except for having played a multitude of different games, I would appreciate it if you would let me know.

"I want to make games"
"What do you want to be"
"I want to be a designer...or a modeler...no wait, a programer!"

Another suggestion is to pick a proffession. There is nothing worse then talking with someone who goes"I want to make games"
"What do you want to be"
"I want to be a designer...or a modeler...no wait, a programer!"

There do seem to be a few good 'Beta testers' sites ot there at the moment. Registering with one of these might be a good place to get some experience. Then, when you go along to an employer you can say you've been involved with testing.

Ok I understand that being a 'beta tester' is a good place to start but there is a problem with that. I, unfortunately, have no idea what a beta tester is. I have no experience in this field whatsoever. I think I may have an idea about what a beta tester is, but I would greatly appreciate it if someone would help me clarify exactly what a beta tester is and the role that a beta tester plays in this industry.

Just going over some older posts... Found your questions.
A Beta tester is a person who gets a copy of a program from a developer (after the developer thinks the game is almost finished), and plays the heck out of it to find any bugs that are in the program. A Beta tester usually has to fill out bug report after bug report and has to play the game over and over. Possibly starting from the beginning and playing through the entire game up to and more than 100 times. I have been involved in beta tests a few times and they can be a lot of work and frustration.. say your "space ship" gets blown up at this spot for no reason. You have to find out Why it keeps getting blown up. This could require you to try to retrace your steps a couple dozen times. Dont get me wrong about the work though. Playing a game that nobody has yet can be very rewarding and fun. You also get the chance to shape small parts of the game. Check out www.betanews.com for possible beta tests going on now that you could get involved with.

Others will tell you, and I'll agree, that the best thing to do in your position is to a) play games a lot and b) make mods, skins, levels and the like for games.
