Off to Trip the Yule Fantastic

Hey cowboys and cowgirls!

Much like the rest of GG, I'm turning into a pumpkin for the holidays. I'll be around a little bit here and there on forums and IRC, but in order to perserve freshness I'm gonna be taking it as easy as possible for Christmas and New Year's. See some friends, chill out, do things with my family... Have some nice homecooked meals. :)

In case you're curious, my big goals for the early part of next year are getting Atlas 2.0 out the door (editors, blending, many other updates), getting TDN out of beta, releasing Elixir... and maybe a few other things, too.

(Note the shadows cast by the trees. Yes... it's getting closer and closer. :)

Happy Christmas & New Year! See y'all in 2006!

Edit: Just to clear up confusion, this is a screenshot of the forest pack I've been working on for a while now. It's running in TGE, and all the trees are rendered using a custom Forest object. Elixir is a source code documentation viewing web app. TSE will have shadows, but these aren't it.

The SS displays Torque Game Engine... so I'm assuming that's not a shader driven screenie?

As the window title in the screenshot is TGE, I guess that the screen includes static DTS trees with shadows baked onto the terrain with TLK. The most interesting thing about that would be the detail on the trees, and the numbers of them.

Could it be a system to produce trees with LOD, a la Speedtree? Perhaps that same system produces both animated trees and an animated lightmap for terrain? It wouldn't be able to adapt to non level terrain without difficulty though.

Next "version" of tse is set to include new shadow stuff and new atlas terrain features also. Alas no "make game" button yet. Thats the version after next.

I think that's probably the tree generator thing I remember Ben working on ages ago... called Elixer now I guess? But I dunno. They look funny with that grey alpha stuff, unless it's supposed to be a buncha spider webs.
